Sunshine again this morning.  My, are we not getting the nice weather lately!!  It is so nice to sit and feel the sun beaming through the big front windows.   The coffee is perked and I do the usual facebook thing while I enjoy my first cup of the day.
The morning was spent just relaxing and that turned out to be a good thing as I had just finished doing the dishes when I got a call from Gale asking if I would come and help her dig potatoes.
I hopped on the quad and went over.  Two hours later, the potatoes were all dug up and drying in her garage.  There were lots of them and I am sure she will have enough to get her through the winter and even have some for seed in the Spring.
With the potatoes dug and safely in the garage, I headed back to the bus.  John was once again, working on the jeep and now the stereo is in and functioning.  The dash is in and attached and the glove box is in as well.  With all these jobs done, it will be soon time to get the new steering wheel attached, the seats back in and the top on.  Then and only then will the jeep be ready for the trip South. Another day or two and it will be ready to roll,
With the jeep project finished for the day, we sat out in the sunshine enjoying a refreshment until it started getting chilly then headed into the man cave and sat in front of the heater and had several more.
Supper could not have been simpler - toasted BLT sandwiches.  Mmmmmm

The sun is shining this morning and another great day is in the works.  I am planning on doing some laundry today as I now have the quad back and can transport the bags with it.  I have several loads to do before we leave as the rugs, the throws and the linen all need to be done before we head out of town.
First on the agenda though is.....coffee!!
With coffee over, it was time to load up and head over to the laundromat.  The whole laundry experience was uneventful and now that I am back at the bus, it is time to put all the clean stuff away.  With that being done, I then went looking for John and found him in the shop working on the jeep.  The dash is now proped against the steering column and he is now connecting all the millions of wires. He has these fancy connectors on the ends of the wires so it is an easy task.  The hardest part is reading all those pieces of masking tape to get the right wires hooked to the right wires!!  I arrived just in time to be the official "holder" of the dash while John hooked up all the wires.  With that being done, it was time to call it quits.
We enjoyed the last of the sunshine then headed into the bus to continue our viewing of this week's premiere TV shows.  That's right, as I have said before....we have no life!!

Wednesday, September 26/2012

I am up early and heading to work this morning.   The sun is shining and it looks like it is going to be another great Fall day.  I didn't bother ironing a uniform yesterday so that was one of my jobs this morning.  I love it when I leave everything for the last minute!!
Before long however, I am ready to go and head out.  John is supposed to be coming over later this afternoon for an appointment to get a prescription for blood pressure pills.
As the day progresses, and his appointment time nears, I get a call from him saying to cancel the appointment as Dave has received a call saying that his quad is ready for pickup so they plan on picking ours up as well which requires John's presence to do so.  I guess the appointment is going to have to wait until next Wednesday!!  He will definitely have to keep that one as he will be out of medication after that!!
My day "at the office" ended and when I walked home I noticed that the lights were on in the man cave.  When I went to investigate, I found John and Hogan sitting in front of the heater.  They were sitting with each other, waiting for me!  They really have no life without me!!!
I sat in the man cave for a beer and listened to John as he told me about his and Dave's adventures from today.  They had a good day and now both quads are sitting back home where they belong.  Maybe we will be able to do one final trail ride this weekend.
After working 12 hours, I am tired and head into the bus where the bed is calling to me.  It isn't long before I am horizontal with the TV on and before I know it, I am asleep.  I do wake up at some point and shut the TV off and finally call it a day.     Good Night.

Tuesday, September 25/2012

Another nice day is upon us and I had better get into gear as there are still things on my list that need to be done.
As I sit here this morning enjoying my coffee, Sheldon has arrived next door to rototill Shirley's garden.  He does a wonderful job and I am getting the itch to have my garden ready for the tiller as well.  When I was working yesterday, Shirley was visiting relatives in the home and mentioned that she had no plans to plant her garden next year and I was welcome to use the space for myself.  I said I would think about it and mentioned that if I did, I would definitely need a small rototiller for between the rows.   That would certainly make the job of weed control a whole lot easier.
John headed into the shop to work on the jeep (gee, I am getting tired of writing that in this blog!!) and I headed into the garden.  The carrots are on my radar today and once they are picked, the produce is all harvested.
I managed to get the carrots dug and then sat outside and cleaned them all.  I then put them into bags and got 5 big ziploc bags of them.  Gee, for "only a few" left in the row, I got plenty!!  I will give Gary a couple of bags, use one or two myself and anything left over can be left with my sister.  I am sure she will appreciate them as well.
With the carrots done, it was time for me to relax for the day!!  I took my kindle and sat in the sunshine with a cool one while John continued on the jeep.  Eventually, he put in his four hours of wiring and called it a day, joining me in the sunshine and enjoying the last of it.
Once the sun was gone, it was time to head inside and get down to the business of watching tonight's premiere TV shows.
I had walked to the store earlier to buy something for supper and decide to roast a chicken so, had put it into the slow cooker and by the time the sun was gone, the food was ready.  Roast chicken, potatoes and what else......carrots!!
We spent a quiet evening in front of the TV.  I am scheduled to work in the morning so hopefully, I can get a good night's sleep and be ready to go in the morning.

Monday, September 24/2012

It is another nice morning and I am able to enjoy the sunshine while having my morning coffee.  I am working this afternoon so have the morning to relax or maybe get some more jobs off my "to do" list.
I sent a text to Gina telling her about the beets earlier and she has responded that she will be here today to get them.   That will leave only a few carrots in the garden.
The jeep needs a good cleaning and that was on my list for today.  It was full of leaves, twigs and general trail dust, not to mention the beer cans and other garbage I have picked up along the trail during the season.  With the vacuum in one hand and a bucket of water in the other, a few hours later, the jeep was sparkling clean.  Now, when John is finally done the wiring, the jeep will be clean and ready for the trip to Arizona.
The morning seemed to go by quickly and before I knew it, I was getting ready for my six hours of work and John was headed out to the shop to work on the now, very clean, jeep.  Gina came to get the beets just before I left for work so, tomorrow, I will deal with the remaining carrots.
Back at home, my six hour shift finally over, I am  ready to watch some of the new Fall line up of TV shows.  There are several premieres on TV tonight and I plan on settling in and catching as many as I can because, after all, I have no life!!

Sunday, September 23/2012

Oh the sun is shining again today and already,  it is hot this morning.  The bus door is open and Hogan is lying in the grass, in the sunshine.  He had better get as much grass laying as he can because he will not see any for six months in a matter of weeks!!
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are playing football today so it is a "Go Riders Go" kind of day.  They sooo need to win this game if they have any hope of getting into the playoffs.
Shirley came over this morning and said they were going to take their boat down to Island Lake today and try their luck at fishing.  Since they managed to get plenty the last time they were there, I imagine they will be successful once again.  She asked if John and I wanted to come with them but since the Riders are playing, that would be a "no".   I am not sure where everyone would sit anyway as their boat is good for only three fishermen and since the jeep is not in running order yet, taking our boat is not an option!!  Hopefully, John will get the jeep running this coming week and we can make the trip to Island with Gary who, has never fished there.  His boat is too big to get down to Island so he hasn't had the opportunity to fish for the "gators"!!
I got a call today from one of the RNs at the nursing home asking if I would work the last six hours of her shift tomorrow as she is leaving on vacation to Hawaii and the plane is leaving early Tuesday morning so, they want to travel into Saskatoon Monday evening and get a good night's sleep before heading out. I agreed to do this and  now I am scheduled for work tomorrow.  Woo Hoo, gosh, I haven't been there for a while!!
Gary came over before he left for the trails and told us the vicinity he will be riding in today.  He has been real good about letting us know where he is riding ever since the scare Dave gave us when he had to walk 8 miles out of the bush to his truck after his quad got stuck and his winch piled up on him leaving him stranded in the bush.  We wished him luck and off he went.
It was dark when Gary got back but he had a successful trip bagging 7 prairie chickens and finding what he thinks is a good hunting spot.  Hopefully he has success in that area this year.  His new quad is running well (as it should) and he is more than happy with it.

The trees are changing fast

The riders won their game so everyone in Riderville is happy.
There was no campfire tonight and we relaxed for the evening in front of the TV with John busy on the internet and me reading my book.  Life is good.

Saturday, September 22.2012

The sun is shining again this morning and it looks like it is going to be another great weekend.  There are so few warm sunny days now that one really must take advantage of them.
There are two football games on today and that is what we have planned for our day.  Our Riders don't play till tomorrow so it looks to be shaping up to be a football weekend which is good considering,  the quad still remains in Prince Albert at the service shop and the jeep is still un-drivable with all the dash wires still looking for a home!!
Dave's brother Jeff is out for the weekend and I imagine they have all sorts of activities planned.  Shirley came over and told us that she would not be going quadding with the boys as her hip was bothering her and she had to get some of "our" garden done up and in her freezer for the winter.  With that, she took a ton of beets, carrots and swiss chard home and I am sure, she will be busy all day with that load of stuff!!  It is good to see her finally getting some of the garden done up.
Gary, Dave and Jeff took off on their quads and were not heard from until the early evening.  Although we did not talk to Jeff or Dave, Gary came over to tell us they had a good day.
John had started a campfire again tonight,  just before Gary came over and it was crackling good and sending off wonderful waves of heat which, was a good thing as Gary was pretty chilly by the time he got back to town.  He mentioned that he had to get his winter riding gear out as he was planning on going back out on the trails to scout for moose sign tomorrow and is hoping to bag a moose for the winter.  Now, that would give him plenty of meat.  Unfortunately he didn't get any deer and only about 20 pounds of moose meat last year so he is hoping for better results this year.
With the fire blazing. we sat around it until it was time for Gary to head home.   The potatoes were put on the grill and once they were done, the steak was added.  Mmmm, another great evening for food and beverage!!

Friday, September 21/2012

The sun is shining today and it looks like it is going to be a wonderful day for the first day of Fall.  I will continue to work on my "list" of stuff that needs to be done before we leave Leoville.
Once last night's supper dishes were clean and the kitchen made tidy, I started getting the cupboards straightened out and turfed some more stuff out of them and into the storage trailer.
Shirley came over and informed me that she had asked the rototiller guy to come over and rototill her garden so that was my signal to get the rest of my junk out of her garden.  Since I had dug all the potatoes out earlier this week, there was just a few piles of refuse left and that was easily dealt with so now her garden is ready for the rototiller.
While I was out dealing with the clean up of Shirley's garden, I took another swipe at my own.  I picked a few of the tiny tim tomatoes off the last plant and pulled what was left up and stacked it in the "going to the dump" pile.  I then picked a few weeds and dug up half the row of swiss chard.  If Shirley doesn't want it, I will be digging what remains and throwing it on the pile as well.  That will leave only the carrots and the beets to deal with.  Slowly, my garden is being emptied of its wares and it too will be ready for the fall rototilling.
Gina stopped by today with the last of my Avon order.  Now I should have enough shampoo and conditioner to last me while I am in Arizona.
Shirley brought me a cookbook the other day published by the Spiritwood Community so it is full of tried an true recipes so I took the time to sit in the sun and scan some of the recipes.  John was still busy on the jeep, so I thought a cool beer in the sun reading my book was in order.
Just as I was about to start, a couple of the town ladies (who were out walking their kids) stopped by for a bit of a chat so there went my reading time.  One of the kids had managed to catch an injured bird so was more than happy to show it off.  She was worried that Hogan would eat it (she obviously didn't know Hogan) but I assured her that he wouldn't.  It was a female robin with a broken wing.  Hogan sniffed it then ignored it.  Eventually, the bird managed to get loose and took shelter in some trees out of reach of the children.
By the time the ladies left, John was finished with the jeep and we took the time to enjoy the last of the sunshine before heading into the bus and watching some of the football game.
Both Dave and Gary decided to go a try their hand at getting some prairie chickens with their shotguns tonight so I am sure we will find out how that went when they return.
The football game was not too exciting so John went and started a fire and we sat around it waiting for the guys to came home with their hunting tales.
While sitting there, Hogan became very focused on something sitting on the grass beside the door of the bus.  Because the lighting was bad for me, I was unable to decipher what it was.  I asked John and he said it was a bird.   Hogan continued to advance towards it and the little thing did not move.  We decided it must have flown into the window of the bus and was stunned by the impact.  Hogan sniffed at the thing and I went over to pick it up.   Hopefully the pics that John took of it are good and we can post them.  It was a little sparrow and I walked over to the evergreens and sat it on a branch.  I checked on it about 10 minutes later and it had gone so that was good - we had saved a life!!
Gary was the first to arrive back and he managed to shoot one prairie chicken.  Shirley arrived from work and wandered over for a beer.  Dave had yet to arrive back and since it was getting quite dark out, we knew that he would be back soon.  Ten minutes later he too was back and had bagged three birds as well  although one was fed to his dogs as it had too many pellets in the breast meat to eat.
Dave was hoping for pizza for supper and was rather disappointed that the dough had not been made yet but it just so happened that I had a pizza shell left over from last night and so I gave it to Shirley to use for their supper.
Nice night

It wasn't long before John and I were the only ones left at the fire.  John started the BBQ and got the ribs cooking while I dealt with the potatoes and the corn on the cob.   Before too long, we too were eating and I must say, the ribs were delicious.
Bed soon followed for me and Hogan while John remained up watching TV.

Thursday, September 20/2012

Well the sun is shining this morning and Gale and I are off to North Battleford for a day of shopping and whatever else we decide to do.  She picked me up before 9:00 a.m. and headed out.
We shopped till noon then stopped to refuel at the local Chinese food restaurant (it was good) then headed back into the stores.   We did not stop until the car was full and by that time, it was time to head back to Leoville.
We got back into Leoville around 5:00 p.m. and both of us agreed that it had been a long day.  A good day, but a long one.
John had been working on the jeep for the day and it continues to "come along".  Wiring is a tediously slow job so it often looks like there has been little progress.  Hopefully it will be up and running by the weekend so that Gary and I will be able to take the boat into Island Lake and catch a few gator sized Northern Pike!!
I brought a couple of pizza shells from Battleford today so that is what I made for supper.  Gary came over for a quick beer while the pizza was cooking then headed home when he was done his beer for his supper.
The evening was spent quietly watching TV and since my legs were aching (from all today's walking, I presume) I laid in bed and watched TV!!

Although it is cloudy again this morning, I can see patches of blue and the sun looks like it will be shining at some point today.
I have lots of jobs to do again today so will continue with the "TO DO" list I have made for myself.  Today, I think it will be cleaning the outside of the windows and tidying up the bays under the bus.  I had a coke spring a leak under there at some point during the summer and it spewed its contents into one of the big bins.  Thank heavens everything under there is in bins so the mess was totally contained!!
I should also take a load of laundry over and get it done so that I have a clean pair of jeans to wear to North Battleford tomorrow when Mom Wourms and I hit the stores there.  She is headed to Battleford to shop and wondered if I would ride in with her.  Well, it will be a bit of a chore but I think I could force my self to go SHOPPING!!!  Woo Hoo!!
Dave came over this morning to inform us that he was headed to Shellbrook today to take his quad back for warranty work.  John had wanted to go with him and take our quad into Prince Albert for warranty work as well.  He would be leaving around noon so John got ready, took the quad over then the two of them headed out.
That left me here alone to get some of the stuff off my "to do" list.  I started in the kitchen with the dishes then cleaned the inside of the windows.  I then got the ladder out and cleaned the outside of the windows.  WOW!!  I can now see out of the windows and wonder if it really was cloudy all last week!!  I then decided to clean the big bay under the bus so got the vacuum out and used it.  I also cleaned up the bin the pop bottle leaked in and straightened out the bins.  I then went into the storage trailer and straightened the front end of it out.  I rearranged some of the boxes and stacked them neatly and stored my canning supplies in there as well.
Next, I turned my attention to the garden and started cutting some of the swiss chard for Gary.  He had mentioned that I could freeze some for him - wink wink nod nod so, I did just that!!   He now has 9 bags of swiss chard to add to his freezer.
While I was in the waiting for the chard to wilt down, I started pulling up the beans and once that was done, I pulled up the dill.  Now the garden is quite barren as all that remains is the beets and what is left of the swiss chard and one tiny tim tomato plant.  We definitely need to make a forest run to get all this garden refuse dumped.
John and Dave returned at 4:30 with tales of their adventures.  They saw a for sale sign along the road for an acreage and had to stop and check out the joint.  They wandered through all the buildings and even the house (which smelled musty).  John said we are going to move and I said "not bloody likely"!!  They did manage to find the skull from a cow and brought it home for the man cave.  There are great plans to put a couple of red lightbulbs in the eye sockets - wow - what a conversation piece!!  It must be a guy thing!!
Because the sun was still shining, we sat outside and enjoyed and a few cold ones  eventually heading into the man cave to wait for Shirley to get off work.  Shirley arrived soon enough and we had a few with her as well.  It was soon time for all of us to think about supper and we all headed to our respective kitchens to create culinary wonders!!
It was a fun evening but now it was time to head to bed and think about tomorrow.  I have shopping to do in North Battleford with Gale.

Tuesday, September 18/2012

Not surprising, it is cloudy and dreary out again this morning.  Gosh, how I miss the sunshine in the morning.  I have lots to do today as it is getting down to the wire for getting things done and starting to head South.
Today, I will concentrate on getting the garden cleaned up.  The potatoes and the onions need to be dealt with and I really should do some of the swiss chard up in packages for Gary.
The bus windows need to be cleaned and the bays under the bus need a good cleaning and straightening up.  Hopefully the sun breaks through all this lousy cloud coverage and I am able to get on with my jobs.
Well, the sun did eventually shine but it wasn't until the evening.  It remained cloudy all afternoon but we did manage to get several jobs done anyway.
I got all the potatoes and the onions out of the garden and now they are drying off in the shop.  I was actually surprised at the amount of potatoes I did get and although many of them are small, they will still be tasting pretty darn good next to a pork chop or a roasted chicken!!
John got the grass cut and I suppose that will be the last time it needs to be done this season.  The bus was due for a sewer dump so we did that as well and before parking it on the lot, John cut the grass where it had been sitting for the past month.  Man, the bus sure plays havoc with the grass.  There are huge patches pretty much dead where we sit.  We won't really worry about that this year as next year we have to have the water and sewer trenched into the lot so there will be even more havoc on the grass.  After all the trenching is done, then we can start getting the yard into shape.
Once the bus was parked and the grass cut, I took the quad over to the car wash for a bath and when I returned, John was busy laying the last five cement sidewalk block down beside the shop for a sidewalk.  Now isn't he the busiest little beaver around!!  It will look good once we complete the sidewalk next year.  I think we will need about five or six more blocks to get it done.  At least this easy, when it rains we will not have to wade through a lake to get around to the other side of the building!!
Our jobs for the day were finally done and it was time to have a cool one and enjoy the sunshine.  Eventually, it too disappeared and it was time to head into the bus and the warmth that it offered.  Man, it sure gets chilly out in the evenings now and with the official start of Fall arriving this Friday, I guess that is all we can expect.
Once again, I am stiff and sore from all that bending over in the garden but I am sure glad that it is slowly getting cleared out.
We spent a quiet evening watching TV.
Got the blocks laid down

A nice sunset

Monday, September 17/2012

I am up early this morning and Oh My God, I did not realize that I had so many muscles that could ache all at once!!  Even my neck is stiff this morning!!  Did someone hit me with a truck yesterday because that is what it sure feels like!!  Oh the price one pays for having a good time!!
Because it is so early (7:00 a.m.) it is still rather dreary out so I am hoping that as the morning progresses, we will see the sun.
I just returned a phone call to Casey this morning, as I noticed that he had called four times yesterday while we were out on the trails.  He had a bit of a crash last week on his quad and has had a sore back ever since.  He had gone to the hospital via ambulance where he had xrays and was subsequently released.   At the time, all I could say was "stupid hurts" and he agreed.  Hard to rag on someone when they know they made some poor choices and ended up hurt and off work.  He was planning to return to work today but when he went for his physician return to work form, was informed that he was to be off work for at least 3 more weeks as he had sustained a compression fracture of his thoracic vertebra number 12 and his lumbar vertebra number 1 with the possibility of T 11 and L2 being involved as well!!  WOW, now isn't that great.  I wonder if they bothered to inform him of that when they discharged him or if they did and he failed to mention that little ditty to his mother who, being an orthopedic nurse for 30 years is more than aware of the implications of an injury such as this.  I say again "stupid hurts" and this one will affect him for the rest of his life.  Oh well, it could always be worse, he could have ended up paralyzed for life so he will live with this and be glad it wasn't any worse.
The sun did shine today but there was still lots of cloud coverage.  John has decided to park the trailers back where they belong since the fence is done along where the silver storage trailer will sit.  It was quite a gong show getting it parked close enough to the fence to please John and eventually he got frustrated with my directions (I think he wanted to pull his hair out but....he has none to pull!!) and told me to get behind the wheel and he would direct me!!  OH DEAR - I only stalled the truck 7 times!!!  I didn't think anyones eyeballs could roll back in their head that far!!  He really needs to learn to take a deep breath once in a while, stop and smell the roses and just RELAX!!  Eventually, the trailer got parked and although he says it is closer to the fence now after him directing me....I think it is in the same spot I directed him to!!
We then got the rest of the dirt from the remaining post holes picked up and on the truck and will see if Dave will want to take this final load as well.   He has been using it to level out his back yard.
With our today jobs all done, it was time to sit and enjoy what was left of the sunshine.
Storage railer is parked

Last load of dirt
Dave had gone out to check his trail cam and stumbled upon a recent cougar kill of a deer.  He said there were cougar tracks all over the area and the kill was pretty much consumed.  The ravens were having a chow down but most of the meat had been eaten already.  It must have been killed either yesterday or early this morning as Dave was out there on Friday checking his trail cam.  Being that it was a little buck, Dave took the head as the antlers were still intact.  Drats, I could have used that matching set of antlers for the man cave - more hat hooks!!
Gary and Arlene wandered over for a beer as tonight is Arlene's last night here in Leoville.  She is headed home to Winnipeg tomorrow morning so it was time to bid her goodbye.  She had a great time while she was here and she is always lots of fun.  We have invited her to Arizona for a break from the winter cold but I am sure that it won't be till next Spring that we see her/
As the evening progressed it got chillier and chillier and I was soon wrapped in a blanket.  Gosh, I hate this cold weather.
With everyone heading home for their supper, John threw the pork chops on the grill while I cooked up garden potatoes and fresh carrots.  Mmmm....so good.
Tonight, some of the new fall shows are premiering on the TV so that is how we spent the evening.  At least it is warm inside the bus!!

Sunday, September 16/2012

I am up early and the day seems to be a bit dreary.  There is some heavy cloud coverage and I am hoping that it will clear up a bit as today is the "big ride" with the neighbours.  I will be riding Dave's old quad and am looking forward to theta.
We are soon on the trail and have decided to take Arlene down to Piche's Cabin.  This is a designated heritage site as it is the burial site of Harry Piche, a Metis Indian who lived a rather colorful life in the bush.  Upon his death, his wife buried his ashes at the cabin thus making it a burial site and out of the reach of the Department of Natural Resources who for years wanted both the cabin and Harry gone.  They had hoped to burn it down but were stopped because of some sort of Native Rights and the fact that it was now a burial site.  The cabin itself is well preserved and maintained by the Piche family and remains open for viewing by whoever comes along.  It would be a wonderful haven for anyone lost in the bush and who is lucky enough to come across it.
We headed out and of course the first stop is the little white church were we always stop to pay respects to those lying in the graveyard by having a cold  one "with the dead".  We then headed down the road towards "the block".  On the way, we scared up a flock of snow geese and by the time I arrived, were circling around getting ready to land in the field again and when I looked up, there was nothing but blue sky and white birds.  It was a kodak moment and I could not resist stopping and grabbing a few pics.
Once down in the block, we started down the trail and I was surprised at how dry the trail actually was.  With all the rain we got the other day, I had expected the trail to be much wetter.  It was an easy traverse through the mud along Deer Lake and we stopped at Slide Out for a beverage break.
We stopped at the start of Lilac Trail to gather the troops and prepared to tackle it.  This trail could prove more challenging and in fact was.  There were several trees down from the wind storm that accompanied all that rain the other day so they had to be crossed.  I did well up until I tried to cross a rather big tree and ended up getting high centered.  It was a good thing that Dave was behind me as he was able to ride my quad, his quad and Shirley's quad over the tree!!  Dave to the rescue!!
As we continued down the trail, there were several mud holes that we went around and one that I did not.  Gee, I wish I had gone around it as I got stuck 3/4 of the way through.  I thought I needed to be winched out but Dave yelled at me to "back up" so, with the override button pushed, was able to back right out of the stupid puddle and got back on track and went around it!!  What a rookie!!
We accessed the main trail towards Hooker Lake and ended up stopping at the end of the lake.  Now John and I had not been at this end of the lake for a few years and as we came into the site, there were still several campers parked in the area.  It is a rather pretty area and one that is enjoyed by several families throughout the summer.

We enjoyed a beverage at this site and I was able to get a few pics of the lake from this perspective rather than from our usual beer stop.  Because it just wouldn't be the same if we came to Hooker Lake and not stop at the usual spot, we headed over that way as it was on the way to Piche's Cabin anyway.
There were still a few campers nestled in the trees at that site still but the whole area was real clean.  It looked like these campers actually clean up after themselves.
I got a few close up shot of a curious little squirrel that had come over to investigate the goings on.  He was not too terribly scared of us and posed for the camera!!
As we were about to leave this site and head over to the cabin, I encouraged Arlene to get on Gary's quad and ride it over.  The trails are wide and there are no real obstacles in our way except for a bit of a water crossing that I wondered if Arlene would have issues with.  Arlene had a very bad experience with water while she was riding her horse and both the horse and her almost drowned so now has panic attacks when ever she knows she has to cross any significant bodies of water.  when we arrived at the water, she got off the quad and switched places with Gary so that he drove through the water and she rode.  Once through the water, her and Gary switched seats again and Arlene drove to the cabin, travelling over fallen trees and winding trail.  She did great and by the huge grin on her face was thrilled that she was able to.
When we left the cabin, we took a trail that lead us to "the old truck".  After another beverage and a photo shoot, we headed over to the snowmobile shelter and then headed back down the trail towards home.
I managed to get stuck again on the way home and needed to be winched out.  It was a good one this time and I now hold the record for getting stuck the most in this group in a single day.  Gee, and Shirley worried that she would be the lame duck in the crowd!!  No worries Shirley, I got that one covered!!
We made it back to Slide Out without incident and since it was starting to cool off, I put my rain coat over my jacket to cut the wind.  Some others in the group also added a layer and then we were off again stopping at the cattle gate for the final beverage "in the block".
Because it was road riding all the way home, I put on my winter riding gloves, borrowed a pair to Gary, and those who did not add a layer at the last stop did so now.  It was dark out and there would be no ditch riding for me.  I needed to stay on the road where I was safe.
With one final stop at the church, we eventually all made it back home safe and sound.  Gary and Arlene headed home but Dave and Shirley stayed for burgers (which I had prepared prior to leaving today).  They tasted great but it was soon time for bed as Shirley had to work in the morning and I felt like I had been hit by a truck.  I am still not is shape for riding quad all day and since I was riding one without power steering, fear that I will be paying with sore muscles tomorrow!!
With that in mind, I still had an awesome day, and realized that I so miss riding my own quad.  Thanks go out to Dave for the use of his spare quad.  I fear your generosity has just cost me the price of another quad!!  Good friends and a good time - what more can one ask for???  We are blessed.
