Sunday, May 15/2016 - Saturday, May 21/2015

This week started out much warmer than the previous one.  I was able to finally take off my  bunnyhug and actually sit in the sunshine.
There was some smoke in the air at times as the wildfires are still burning out of control and the smoke is filtering south.  There is a total fire ban for the province so we have not been able to have a campfire since we arrived home.  That sucks but with the forest being so dry there is not much to do but hope for a good 3 day rain.
Seeding is well under way and the farmers are hoping that they can get done before the rain comes.  It is a double edged sword for sure.  The forest is badly in need of rain to keep it safe from fires and the farmers need to get their crops in.
While we were travelling home, I noted that the lilacs were in full bloom in Montana and as I look out the window today, ours are only in bud!!  They will be awesome by next week.  With the warm weather we had a few weeks ago though, the leaves on the trees have burst forward and it is truly "green" where ever one looks.
This week was filled with us looking for something to replace the motor home on the lot here. Apparently NOW is the time to buy!!  There is quite a lot of choice out there and John is certainly patient enough to spend hours on the Internet looking.  Me.... not so much.  I have looked at a few and still cannot remember one from the other!!  I think I need to start writing some notes!!
Our little tow behind trailer that we use for the quad is also on the block so it would be awesome if that sold as well.
This week also found me headed back to the nursing home for my first shift.  It is only a four hour shift and that is awesome as I really do not know how my hips are going to manage.  I guess I am going to find out!!

Thanks to Jimmy O for the loan of his truck

Monday May 9/2016 - Saturday, May 14/2016

Monday found us heading to Leoville on our final leg home.  We have finally arrived and can now enjoy the sights and sounds of summer from there.  It is shaping up to be a busy summer but at least we will be relatively stationary until it is time to head back to Arizona.
We arrived in Leoville around 4:00 0'clock and headed over to Dave and Shirley's to get the keys to the locks on the gate.
We left Cooper in the yard (no worries there as it completely fenced) and were only gone a few minutes.  By the time we arrived back at the yard, the damn dog was gone.  He had found the one and only hole under the fence in which to squeeze himself through and was now "on the loose" Jesus....the dumb ass doesn't even really come to his name yet!!  Man, we haven't even been home for 30 minutes and already there are issues!!  We did eventually find him and calm was restored to the yard!!
The weather had turned chilly and both John and I had our jackets on for most of the week.  This is soo not likeArizona!!  Gosh, it was even trying to snow one day this week.  That is Crazy!!  Good thing I am not in a hurry to plant the garden!!
The tradition of meeting in our yard for a few beers at the end of the work day continued and we had Dave and Shirley,  and Gary over and managed to catch up on some of the winter happenings.  It is good to be home!!
John advertised his quad for sale along with the motor home and we were not really prepared for the response we got.  It was crazy!!  So much interest in the motor home that it was kind of freaky!!  The quad sold on Wednesday and the motor home on Saturday.  It was a marathon event to get the bus cleaned out as the people who bought it called about it on Thursday and wanted to take it back with them to Alberta on Saturday.  Thankfully Shirley came over and helped me with a lot of the clean out as my hips were not being very cooperative.  John did all the outside bays and also helped haul stuff out from the inside. Man, I must say, we sure had a lot of "stuff" in that bus!!
We piled our worldly possessions onto the picnic table and the surrounding grass and that is where they stayed until John got out the little trailer we bought from Gary and packed it so that our "stuff" was out of the elements.  It is a good thing there was no rain in the forecast as that would have made things just a bit uglier!!
Now the task of finding something else to live in begins.
Cooper has checked out every nook and cranny in the yard this week and is finding all sorts of "treasures" Hogan left buried.  His potty training is coming along and he is doing pretty good with that.  He sleeps in his kennel and that is a good thing for now.
Cooper got into "something" in his travels around the yard and was feeling pretty sickly for a day and a half.  He didn't eat or drink and puked more times than I want to remember.   He ate tons of grass and I mentioned to John that if he wasn't eating by the following day, we would have to make a trip to the vet.  Thankfully he was back to his goofy self so that was a relief!!  What ever he had gotten into him had run its course.
So, a busy week had ended and I fear next week will be busy as well.  Shit, Oh dear..........
Life is good - even with my "bad" hips!!

Fire at Bernie's
A week at the farm.....always a busy place but never is one so busy that they cannot stop to smell the roses or listen to the birds chirping happily in the trees.  The weather was truly beautiful and on the really hot days, the wind was around to cool things down a bit.  Kimmy of course got sunburnt but there really is nothing new about that.  She is soooo fair skinned.
The week actually went fairly quickly.  There was doctor appointments to get to as well as the dentist. Not to mention the optometrist and of course the yearly mammogram.  Then, there was the shopping. So many needed supplies to get before heading to Leoville.  Man, the week flew by.
John and I and Kimmy drove Jace to the farm this week as seeding had begun.  We probably won't see him for a month unless there is rain in the forecast.
We also became the owners of a puppy.  A cute little thing by the name of Cooper.  He is a Bluenose Staffordshire Terrier and I am sure he will bring a few smiles to our faces once we get through the whole "puppy" thing!!  He is a rolly polly little thing with big feet and lots of skin to grow into.  He will love running around the yard in Leoville exploring all the corners.   Thank heavens the yard is completely fenced in!!
Our week at the farm culminated in a Mother's Day feast.  Karen and Lee arrived with their kids and cooked the meal and it was delicious!!  Kimmy helped too while Gloria and I sat back and relaxed.  Life is good.

Headed out at Saskatchewan Landing

The highway Bridge
Saturday found us on our final day of travel.  We will be at the farm and spend a week there getting all our necessary appointments done.  Then, it is off to Leoville where our summer awaits.
Arrived at Bernie and Gloria's
We arrived in good time to find both Gloria and Bernie on the deck with red beer in their possession.  I had opened  one of my final Cheladas and was enjoying that on the trip in so John and I were both ready to sit and catch up on their news.
Kimmy and Coors arrived shortly thereafter then Fred and Theresa showed up and they stayed for supper.  It was a beautiful evening and supper was delicious.  Life is good and we are home!!

We will be crossing the border today - one day ahead of schedule.  It is only about an hour from Malta and after yesterday's marathon of driving neither John nor I are in a big hurry to leave.
We did manage to get the UPS package then we simply headed back to the truckstop to chill for a bit.  I got more time to catch up on the blog, straighten the camper out and get all the paperwork and passports ready for the crossing into Canada.
We refueled and took on propane then headed north the final USA leg of our journey home.
When we arrived at the border, a red traffic cone was in the lane preventing any further forward motion.  WHAT.....are we stuck here in the USA, so close yet so far away from home??
As it turned out, the US border crossing guards have always had the power to stop vehicles leaving the country to check on what they are taking out of the country.  In all our years of travel back and forth we have not had that experience as yet so today, was our lucky day.
The guard (a nice young man) was pleasant but did take the time to look in the back seat of the truck, the trailer and even glanced into the camper.   He was giving us the gears for being over on our quota of booze and laughing cause we would have to probably pay duty on it.   We told him we couldn't afford to drink in Canada as the beer was too expensive!!  He chuckled again and said "have a good day".  We thanked him and carried on to the Canada Customs boys.
Man, it is soo good to be home.  It doesn't matter how long you have been out of your own country, it is always nice to come home.
We were lucky enough to get the same Canada Customs Officer as last year and his smiling face was more than welcoming.  He asked us where we had been, how long we had been there and where we were headed.  He didn't even glance at our receipts and simply took our passports and ran them through his machine then came back to the truck and said have a safe trip!!  Thank you Sir......so good the be home.
Tonight we travelled to Saskatchewan Landing where we parked just outside the Equestrian Campground.  It is grassy and beautiful here and a nice welcome home as the sun is shining and it is warm.   We had to travel all the way back to Canada to get to the sun.   There is no cell phone service here and that sucks but......Life is good

Today, we are out of Wyoming and into Montana.  We are making good time and will cross over into Canada on Saturday....or so we thought!!
Today we got a phone call from UPS saying that our package would be delivered to the Malta, Montana UPS depot between 9:00a.m. and 9:30a.m. tomorrow and that the store is only open for that short window.   WHAT THE HELL!!   This of course meant that we had to drive from Shoshone, Wyoming to Malta, Montana today!!  Good Grief, does life get any better!!  LOL
Well, we simply had no choice so off we went and managed to stop in Billings for some quick shopping then headed up to Malta where we arrived 8 hours later.  It was a very long day but at least we will be here to pick up the UPS package in time.
When we left Nephi, John forgot a few things so Kay had UPS send them to Malta.  We thought it was a good idea at the time not realizing that the depot was only open for such a very short time.  We are smarter now!!
The worst thing about today's drive was the last 50 miles or so as it was getting to be the time that the deer and the antelope come out to play.  We managed to dodge all the bodies and arrived safe and sound in Malta.  Life is good.....

Right it is

Heading into Malta, MT

Wednesday, April 27/2016

I was up early this morning and managed to catch up on much of this blog.  I have not been very diligent in keeping up with it even when I was in Wickenburg.  In my defense though, it was sooo very busy that last month we were in Wickenburg that it just was not a priority.  That now has been rectified and although I promise myself to spend more time on the blog.....well, that just might not happen!!  Anyway, I got a lot of it done.
Today's travels were probably the most scenic we have ever taken and believe me, we have seen some pretty awesome sights.  We started out in Idaho and ended up in Wyoming.  To get from here to there, we travelled the Pioneer Scenic Byway.  This highway took us through some back country of Idaho where the history of the North American Indian, the Mormons and the Oregon Trail all play a role in today's mosaic of Idaho life.  The byway itself is 127 miles long and begins in Idaho's oldest town of Franklin.  It ends at the Wyoming border.  It travels past the town of Soda Springs, a city of 3000 and gets its name from the hundreds of natural springs of carbonated water that are located in the town and the surrounding area.  The springs were well known by the American Indians and were uses as a landmark along the Oregon Trail.  It was awesome.
Once into Wyoming, we entered what is known as the Grand Canyon of the Snake River.  Highway 89 runs through this canyon and offers incredible sights.  The Snake River often runs alongside the highway and today was full to capacity with the spring run off from the mountains.
This road eventually took us to the Grand Teton National Park,  Situated in the north west part of the State of Wyoming, it covers 310,000 acres and features the major peaks of the 40 mile long Teton Mountain Range.  "Grand Teton" is the name of the tallest mountain in the range and stands majestically above the forest floor.  The mountains were truly magnificent and a sight that everyone

one should see at least once in their lifetime.  They still had lots of snow on them and that only added to the wonder and splendor of this particular range of mountains.
Along the way we saw a ton of elk, some bison and some deer.  Spring has indeed sprung in the Grand Teton National Park.
As we continued on, Togwotee Pass in the Absaroka Mountains loomed ahead.  This particular pass in located on the continental divide and reaches elevations of 9658 feet at the summit.  The area receives heavy snowfall.  twenty five feet of snow is not unusual in this area but fifty feet has also been known to fall.  No wonder it is a mecca for snowmobile enthusiasts.  There were many "rent me" places along the road for those that what to have an alpine adventure!!
Today though, the road was clear but the snow was more that evident along the ditches and in the fields.  There is a ton of melting yet to come but I bet it is beautiful country in the summer as well.
We travelled through a few scattered snow flurries and eventually made it into the lower elevations without any problems,  As it was getting on in the evening, there were huge herds of mule deer out and about and both John and I were glad that they were happy to stay in the fields along the road.  No dodging of deer was necessary today!!
We stopped for the night at a wildlife refuge along highway 134.  We camped beside Ocean Lake and listened to the millions of birds that chose to make a stop here for the night.  Man, they all where singing their songs and sounded very happy.  There were even a few Canada Geese around to join in the chorus!!  We saw Robins too!!
It was a nice place to camp but it remained chilly and windy.  That seems to be the norm for this trip home.
