Friday, July 29/2011

We headed into Saskatoon this morning.  We had to stop at Costco for Dave and Shirley.  He wants a winch for his Jeep and Shirley needs more flour and sugar.  Shirley bakes the most wonderful bread and buns so I am more than happy to get these things for her as she always shares her baking!!
We made arrangements for Casey to meet us as I won't be able to manage the winch by myself and there is no way in Hell that John is going to be able to get this bus into that Costco parking lot.  That lot is a nightmare for a small vehicles let alone a 40 foot motorhome!!
Casey has decided to come to Leoville this weekend so that should be fun although I am working Sunday and Monday.   He can hang with his Dad.  There are all sorts of odd jobs for Casey to do while he is here and I think I head John mention something about going to chop some firewood.
With all the necessary shopping done, we head back home to Leoville and made it in under two hours!!  We had a tail wind!!
We got home in time to have a beer with Gary and Arlene and watch the second football game on TV.  Casey met one of his friends, Derek, at the rodeo grounds and chatted with him for a while before coming back to the bus - hungry and thirsty!!  What else is new!!
We finished watching the game then I went to bed, leaving the other two losers up to party by themselves.

Thursday, July 28/2011

I was up early this morning as I knew Jimmy would come for coffee.  He did not arrive until around 9 a.m. though,  as he had been out to the Nascar races the night before and did not get home until after midnight.  He said they were fun to watch.  I have never been to see them so should really put that on my "bucket list".
Once both John and Jimmy had their coffee and after we sat around and chatted for an hour, they both wandered over to the truck,  fixed the problem and got it running like a top.  She was finally ready to meet her prospective new owner.
As it tuned out, the guy who was supposed to come and see the truck was unable to make it so all this nonsense was for not today!!  Oh well, hopefully the next time we show it, everything will work out.  Joyce invited us for supper and it was delicious.  Greek ribs and rice and homemade cream corn - awesome.  Apple Crisp for dessert.  Good friends and good food - what more could a person ask for?
Jim had to go to bed early as he had to get up for work early tomorrow,  John headed back to the bus but Joyce and I stayed and talked till midnight.  It was a lot of fun and I totally enjoyed the whole evening.

Wednesday, July 27/2011

OMG, is that the sun????  We are off to Langham today - finally.  We made a quick stop in Saskatoon to dump the holding tanks then headed out to Jim and Joyce's acreage, where we have had the truck stored.   Now won't that be a treat for them if we could sell that thing and get it off their acreage!!
Once we arrived and got parked, John headed over to the truck and,  to our surprise, the God Damn Thing would not start!!   It had been running beautifully in June.   Give me a stick of dynamite - I will get that thing moving!!
After much tinkering and a few curse words, we finally got the old girl running only to have it quit and refuse to start again.  Let me count the number of ways I hate that truck at this very minute!!  John thinks it has something to do with a fuse so will check that out tomorrow morning before the guy who wants to see it arrives.  I suppose it would be a good thing if the truck was actually running while he was here!!
I went to sleep tonight with eager anticipation on hearing that truck running tomorrow.  It is a good thing John is a handy kind of guy and can usually fix most things.

Tuesday, July 26/2011

Well, we were supposed to head into Saskatoon today to shop,  then head to Langham for an appointment with someone to come and see the big truck.  John has had it advertised on Kijiji for a while now.
When I awoke, there were some pretty threatening looking clouds and we are once again,  under a heavy rainfall warning.  My God, I think we must be living somewhere in the Topics and this must be Monsoon Season!
As it turned out, the rains did come and we stayed here in Leoville .  We don't have to be in Langham until Thursday anyway so we will just sit this rain out today and try again tomorrow!!

Monday, July 25/2011

We are under a heavy rainfall warning!!  Now isn't that just lovely.  The clouds are looking rather menacing but so far, so good.  I guess everyone is saving on sunscreen!!  The mosquitos are certainly enjoying this damp weather so bug repellent is a must.  I guess you save on one product but end up using another - and that my friends, is life!!
Today we had a visit from one of our neighbors who has property adjacent to ours here in town.  We had tried to purchase this piece of property last year and we could not come up with an agreeable price so had to let that idea go.  Today, he came by and asked us if we were still interested in it and make him an offer.  Now isn't that interesting.  The property has a huge garage/shop on it and actually butts up the the side of our property.  It is definitely something to think about although lately both John and I are rather discontent with town living so I am not too sure about this whole deal.  There is always "noise" here in town.  Be is someone mowing their lawn, using a chainsaw or simply driving by, there is always noise.  I hate it!!  We have become so used to peace and quiet that this "noise" is nerve raking.  On the other hand, I love that we have good neighbors that come to visit and  can share a beer or a campfire and enjoy each others company.  What a dilemma!!  I will think about it tomorrow!!
John started a campfire and Dave wandered over (Shirley was working).  Dave is busy ripping his little Samurai apart and installing new parts that will "lift" the little thing higher off the ground.  This is a good thing when one is out on the trails.  It was time to quit tinkering and come for a beer.
It had started to rain a bit so I got out the umbrellas and we continued to sit around the fire.  Eventually Gary and Arlene came over and joined us under the umbrellas. I couldn't find my other big one so Dave and Gary cuddled under one, Arlene had another and John and I under one.  We must have looked like a bunch of Redneck Losers, sitting around the fire under umbrellas!!   Eventually, they went home and Shirley arrived.  She mentioned she had a big umbrella at the store and said she would bring it for me.  We sat around for a bit longer then it was time for all of us to have supper.  The impromptu fire party ended and we all headed to our homes.  It was starting to rain a bit harder anyway so it was time to call it a night.

Sunday, July 24/2011

We may see some sunshine today.  The weather has been down right ugly.  One knows when there has been too much rain as there are slugs in the garden!!  Good God - they are ugly little creatures!!  They love the moisture and only show their ugly little faces when the ground is not allowed to dry.  As it turns out, I don't think the ground has been dry for a good week!!
We managed to have a bit of a campfire tonight and that was a nice change from the damp and the rain although I hear there is more on the way.  Yeah!!

Saturday, July 23/2011

It is rather dreary again today. There are two football games today so that will certainly make the day go by.
I pulled a few stray weeds in the garden and thought about cutting the grass.  Unfortunately, that is as close to being cut as it got!!  I probably should save my energy for the football game.  I may have to run a few patterns if the need should arise!!
All in all, it was a relaxing day and the games were great.

Friday, July 22/2011

Well, it is not raining yet this morning but the skies sure do not look too promising.  The kids are all heading home today and John and I will be going over to Clear Water to pick up Jace's travel trailer and park it here in the yard.  Jace had to go back to work on Monday so left Kim at the lake for the rest of the week with Scott and Jill and Kellen.
We headed over to the lake after texting the kids and when we got there, Scott and Jill had already left.  Apparently they are starting the process of selling their house and the Real Estate agent was to meet them later today so, they left early.
Kim and Kellen were not ready yet so we helped them finish loading up then hooked up, stopped to dump the tanks then headed back to Leoville where Kim would empty the fridge.  We took the Big River Grid home as the Clear Water Grid has lots of curves in it, many of which are considered "blind" curves.  It is a rather dangerous 20 kms and I much prefer to travel the Big River Grid even though it is about 15 kms longer.
We saw three deer on the way home and I am sure we saved two of their lives.. We came around a curve and there were two standing directly on the road.  They did not seem to be in any particular hurry to get off the road either.  There was a white truck stopped further up the road and I am sure they had their rifles out the window ready to shoot!!  Not this time guys as we continued along our way scaring them off the road.
Once back in Leoville, Kim cleared their fridge then her and Kellen were on their way home.  They still had a good 2 hour drive in front of them.
It was looking a bit like rain but John decided to start a fire.  The football game was not on till 8 p.m. so we had a couple of hours to kill.
Dave came over for a bit and eventually the rain did start and we had to get the umbrellas out.   No use in wasting a good fire!!  It has been a long time since John and I sat around the campfire under an umbrella.  Gary and Arleen stopped by for a while and sat under the umbrellas as well.  We totally looked like a bunch of Rednecks!!
Eventually, it was time to head into the bus and finish watching the football game and have supper.  Kim had left us some deer sausage and John cooked it on the BBQ.  It was awesome.
The rain eventually stopped but it remained chilly.
With supper over and the dishes done,  it was time for me to head to bed and watch some TV while in the prone position - a good position to be in!!  A great way to end a day.

Thursday, July 21/2011

It is 5:30 in the morning and I have managed to wake John up with my coughing.  Needless to say, he is not too terribly impressed!!  Well then, my work is done!!
Perhaps some coffee will help so up I get (even Hogan is not all that impressed with me!!) and make some more noise in the process!!
It looks rather bleary out again this morning however I do believe I can see a bit of blue sky.  Perhaps there will be some sunshine today.  The trees are blowing so I know it is a bit windy out as well.
We got a text from the kids at the lake (this would be my boys from other mothers!!), they are in need of some repairs on their quads so are heading over here to use the air compressor, the welder and what ever else is needed.
They arrived and got to work, the girls came for a visit and went "shopping" at the grocery store and the video store!!  Not much "shopping" to be done there unless it is food you are after!!
They came back with a new flavor of Old Dutch chips - Sweet and Sour!!  What next!!
Once the fixing was all done, the kids headed back to the lake to suit up then meet us back on the trail.  They are taking us for a ride which is funny because none of them really knew the trails!!  Kimmy said that she was glad we were along as she knew we would get her home safe and sound as she had no idea where she was!!
The ride was a lot of fun.  The kids never missed a mud puddle to go through and were wet before too long.  Actually I think Jill was the only one real wet as she did not have chest wadders on.  She said she was too cheap to buy them.  Silly Girl!!
Heading out

Lots a water on the trails

Kimmy riding with Kellen

Sami to the rescue!

One last mud hole
The trail was super wet from all the rains and I am sure it will be several more days before they dry out and that is only if we don't get anymore rain.
Of course the kids are always hungry while they are on the trails so we stopped for a wiener roast which actually was timed rather nicely as Kevin's quad was having battery issues so we charged his battery off Sami while we cooked the "dogs".
We eventually made it back to the Grid Road and the kids had two options for traveling home.  It was 9:00p.m.  and getting late so they could either take the Gun Range Road (which I know would be nothing but huge water puddles on top of huge water puddles, or, they could go back to Vimy and down Huard Lake Trail which would actually be quicker and much shorter.  They had travelled this way to meet us earlier.  As it turned out, they decided to take the quicker way home so we said goodbye to them and we headed back into Leoville.  I had asked the kids to text us when they got back to camp so that we knew they had made it which they did a little more than an hour later.
It was a great ride and was a lot of fun.  It is always an adventure when we go with the kids!!
John and I both were tired when we got back to the bus and after a quick supper (which can't even be called supper) headed to bed.  I feel like I carried the Sami through the trails!!

Wednesday, July 20/2011

It rained again during the night and I remember being woke up by a pretty good crack of thunder, at some point.  This morning, the skies are dull and grey and it looks like we could very easily get more.
As it tuned out, it rained for most of the day - a good steady rain that I am sure has, once again,  caused flooding issues and several wet basements. The trails will be ugly, wet and muddy!!  Apparently, we are under a heavy rainfall warning!!
We didn't have much choice but to stay inside and relax - boy this can become a nasty habit!!  Between me reading, John on the Internet and the TV, the day passed rather quickly.
With supper over with, we settled into an evening of So You Think You Can Dance and other TV shows then headed off to bed with hopes of perhaps some sunshine in tomorrow's forecast.  Fat chance of that according to the weather man!!

Tuesday, July 19/2011

It rained off and on all night but the sun is shining like crazy this morning.  It is muggy as well.  It looks like it is going to be another hot one!!
Since the garden is so wet, I decided to go pull a few weeds as that is the best time to get the job done - they pull out so easily.  I managed to get a few rows done (there wasn't many to do) before it got too hot and I needed to seek the cool confines of the bus.
The afternoon was hot so the only thing we had to do was go pick up some ice so that the beer was cold!!  I went into the store and everyone was wondering how we managed last night with all the wind.  Now, I realize there was lots of wind but I didn't think it was that bad.  Perhaps we were a bit more sheltered than some, here in town.
John and I went for a ride in the truck and looked at a piece of property that we have inquired about.  It would be nice if we could find a piece of property outside of the town limits and yet close enough for both the kids and my work.  As we walked around the property we found lots of stinging nettle and by the time we were done, both of us had plenty of "hits" on our legs.  Shorts - not a good idea!!  The property is pretty overgrown and would take a lot of work to get it into shape.
While we were out and about, we checked out a trail we had not been on before and ended up finding some old abandoned buildings in a meadow, full of all kinds of junk.  I am not quite sure why anyone would bother to keep junk unless the old saying "out of sight, out of mind" comes into play!!
Back at the bus, Gary heard us coming back and invited us over for a beer.  He just got back from Saskatoon with his girlfriend Arlene (who just flew in from Winnipeg).  She is here visiting for two weeks.
We chatted with them for a while and then it was time to cook supper and sit and have a quiet evening.  All in all, it was a good day - well, except for the stinging nettles!!

Monday, July 18/2011

It is cloudy today and I think there is rain in the forecast.  The weekend was hot and the kids could not have asked for better weather.  So, I guess it is okay if it rains today.
Actually, I watered the garden a bit yesterday as it was getting pretty dry again after that intense heat on the weekend so, I say, let it rain!!
Jace has to head back to Saskatoon today so we will be expecting him to stop by before he heads back.  Kim, Scott and Jill will be spending a few more days out at the lake then they too will be heading back to Saskatoon.  Kim has to race next weekend so her holidays ends at the racetrack.
Jace showed up around supper time and looked pretty darn tired.  When these kids spend a weekend at the lake it is anything but relaxing.  They have a 48 hour party!!  Now he has to go home to rest!!  Thank Heavens for work!!
As the evening progressed, the weather became more foreboding.  The skies looked down right ugly and there has been tornado warning out for most of the evening.  The wind did come up and started buffeting the bus pretty good so we headed out to roll up the awning.  It is better to be safe than sorry as those darn awnings are not cheap if one has to replace it.  We got back in just as the rain started falling.  Great,  now we have wind and rain.  What a great lightening show though!!  It wasn't too long before the power went out and aren't we lucky that we can just switch over to the batteries and still watch TV while the rest of the town sits in the dark!!  Life is Grand!!
We fell asleep with the sound of rain on the roof and I knew my garden would be smiling!!

Sunday, July 17/2011

John said the neighbor's party lasted most of the night but I must confess, I did not hear a thing!!  This morning I still feel lousy however we are supposed to be meeting the kids for a trail ride today.  They are to text us and let us know where and when to meet them.
We packed the truck and where ready to go when we got a text saying the kids were going on the dirt bikes for a short ride then coming heading back to camp as Casey and Tori needed to head back to Saskatoon today.  Case starts his new job on Monday.
It sounded like it was only going to be for a few hours then maybe the quads were going back out but they would let us know.
As it turned out, Casey and Tori did not go on the ride because we had not arrived!!  Instead, they spent the day on the boat and Case got a hell of a good sunburn.  He said he was mad that we didn't come over so that him and Tori could go on the ride but I read him the text I got and said that I got the impression that he had gone on the ride.  What a mix up!!  He told me that it had been Bailey who was texting and not him so no wonder everything got screwed up!!  Dumb Little Blond Girl!!  Lesson learned Caseman - do your own texting!!
Case and Tori stopped by on their way home to drop off all the stuff they had borrowed, stayed for about an hour then headed home.  They still had a two hour drive in front of them and they both looked tired.  I  asked them to text us when they got home and they did arrive safe and sound.  Now I can quit worrying.
John had started a fire after they left and we sat around it while supper cooked then,  it was off to bed.

Saturday, July 16/2011

As usual, I am up early.  It is supposed to be a beach day for the kids today.  John has no desire to go and sit on the beach so I gathered all the food and Hogan and I drove to the lake without him.  As it turned out, it was a lovely sunny day and as it progressed there were more and more sunburns showing up on the girls.  Jill, who is so terribly fair, took the cake with her beet red face, shoulder and chest!!  I think she will be hurting tomorrow.
Hogan and I spent most of the day with the kids but eventually I was starting to get tired so decided to head home.  The kids had decided to go for a ride to Island Lake.  Some of them wanted to fish as they only had the two days here at the lake.  Scott had arrived and was busy changing his tires on his quad so that he could join the ride.  I left before they headed out and was glad to get home.  I was tired and my nose is plugged and my throat is sore.  I managed to fall asleep in the chair despite the loud blaring music across the street from a party that I am sure will last most of the night!!

Friday, July 15/2011

I am off to work today and can hardly wait for the next 12 hours to be over.  The boys are coming today and I love to see my boys.
There is never enough excitement at work but these last few shifts have been full of it.  First the water/power thing and now today, the big industrial washing machine has gone on the fritz!!  Now hasn't that just sent the laundry woman into a tizzy!!  My God, what is the matter with these people!!
Our Maintenance Man (bless his heart) is a very steady down to earth man and handled the "crisis" wonderfully and although he was unable to fix the problem, made all the necessary arrangements for the new part and eventually the "laundry lady" went home and peace and calm was restored!!
With the day finally over, I got back to the bus to find that Casey and Tori had already arrived.  It was good to see them and what made it even better was that Casey has finally found another job welding.  THANK YOU GOD!!  He is excited about it and hopefully does well.
Jace and Kim eventually made it as well and stayed only long enough to say Hi.  They needed to get to the lake and set up camp before it got dark.  Case and Tori followed as they needed to set up a tent.  They grabbed the air mattress from here along with the pillows and sleeping bags and they too were gone.
Gary came over for a while after they left and John got the notion that we should drive over and visit the kids tonight.   Gary headed home and we headed to the lake.  By the time we got there the tent and the camper were set up and the kids were sitting around the campfire.  Scott's Jill had gone up earlier and secured a site and there were several of their friends there also.   The kids were partying!!
We eventually made it home around 2 a.m.  I was tired and I think my throat hurts!!  I am definitely getting a cold - GREAT!!

Thursday, July 14/2011

I headed into Spiritwood today to do the shopping for the weekend and get all the ingredients for the bush pie filling.
Before I did that though, I dropped off the Sami at the service station so that the guys could change the transmission oil and the transfer case oil.  Since they were not too busy, I had them take a look at the front tire on "Old Blue" as it keeps loosing air.  As it turned out, it was leaking around the bead so only needed at good cleaning and a bit of sealer.  With this done, I headed into Spiritwood.
Shopping done and back at the bus, I started on the bush pie filling and threw some eggs in a pot to hard boil them for potato salad.  I have some wrinkly old potatoes that need to be used before they go rotten so decided to make the kids potato salad as well.
Of course I had to get all this done up today,  as I had agreed to help at the nursing home again tomorrow.
There is no rest for the wicked you know!!
Eventually, everything got done and I even managed to make a rhubarb tart for John (he loves his rhubarb).
I don't have to worry about taking lunch tomorrow as the cook said he was cooking fresh caught fish for lunch.  Fish and Fries!!!  Oh Yeah!!
I must admit, the bed felt mighty good tonight.

Wednesday, July 13/2011

It is a work day for me today and to my surprise, I did not have to walk to work in the rain.  It looks like it is going to be another nice day.
I got a call from the town office around 9a.m. saying that the water was going to be turned off for at least 7 hours as they were cleaning out their system.  We had about an hour to get the baths done and store some water for the day's use.  Once the water was turned back on though, there would be a "boil water" advisory in effect because of all the pressure changes in the system.
We managed to get all the baths done and had water stored and before we knew it, the water was off and the day carried on fairly well - up until the power went out!!  Now, the power going out usually is not a problem as the home has a back up generator that automatically starts up during any power failure.  Today, however was a bit different.  Our generator requires water to flow through it in order to keep the engine cool.  Well, guess what.....we have no water.  No water - No generator.  No generator - No power.  No power - No phone and no fans blowing to keep me and everyone else cool.  Now that is a dilemma for someone who is suffering through several "tropical moments" during her day!!  Let us just leave this with me saying it was a Very Long Hot Day!!
I will sleep like the dead tonight!!

Tuesday, July 12/2011

Since I am not scheduled to work till tomorrow, I took today to simply relax and enjoy life.  I mucked around in the garden - which I swear has grown a foot in the last couple of days and started making a list of everything that needs to be done before the kids get here on Friday.
Jace has asked me to make bush pie filling as that is one of the things on their menu for the weekend.  No problem I say,  however, I will have to make a trip to Spiritwood to get the ingredients.  It is just too expensive here in Leoville to shop for some things.  I am told that it is because it costs more to ship it here to Leoville but I truly beg to differ.  We are 32 kms from Spiitwood and I can't imagine why a cucumber costs over $3.00 here when they are only a dollar in Spiritwood!!  Does 32 lousy kms make that much of a difference???.  Someone is screwing someone!!  You have to love small town Canada!!
Since I did laundry yesterday, I have clean uniforms for work tomorrow.  I can just relax and enjoy the rest of the day which remained peaceful and calm.
Shirley came over after she got home from work today and was covered with bug bites from last night's excursion to Vimy.  She said she scratched all day and was still scratching when she was talking to us!!  Man, those dirty little No-See-Ums did a number on her!!  John and I remained fairly unscathed compared to her!!

Monday, July 11/2011

OMG - it is NOT raining this morning.  Could that be possible!!  The sun is shining and the birds are singing.  Life is good
I really must skip over to the laundromat and wash my uniforms or maybe I will just throw them into the little wash machine I have here in the bus.  I don't use it very often and really should just to keep things lubricated and the trap full.  Yes, I think I will do just that, then, hang them out on the clothesline next door.  They will smell wonderful.
The laundry is hanging on the line.  Not the neighbor's line though, as it turned out to be wire and was horribly rusty so I fashioned one from my own clothes line stuff I have here in the bus.
With the sun shining like it was, it sure didn't take long to dry.
Now I can sit and relax for the rest of the day.
With the kids coming up this weekend, I need to get into gear and plan a few things so that I am not scrambling to get things done while they are here.
Being such a lovely day, John and I decided to take a drive down to Poplar Lake so I could throw a few hooks into the water and maybe catch a trout for supper.  We climbed into the truck (Hogan rode in the cab with us!!) and off we went.   We were catching some dust from some vehicle in front of us and as we got closer to it we realized it was Dave and Shirley, who were also out for an evening drive.  As it turned out, I never did make it to Poplar to fish!!  Instead, we headed down to Vimy and sat on the edge of that little lake and had a few beer and watched the antics of Mr Beaver.  The mosquitos and the No -See-ums were voracious and it is certainly a good thing we had bug spray with us and even then we all still managed to get a few bites.
Upon returning home, we invited Dave and Shirley for supper and John cooked steak and baked potatoes.  It was delicious.  Shirley had to work the next day so her and Dave headed home after supper.  It was a nice end to a wonderful day.

Sunday, July 10/2011

Working and raining off and on again today.  Life is good and I am glad that I now that this shift is over, I have a couple of days off before I work again.
I have talked to both the boys and it sounds like they are planning on coming up next weekend so we will get to party with them soon.  It is a good thing I had not booked any shifts while they are here.  We might even get out onto the trails too.
Off to bed.   Working four days in a row is plenty but I did promise the Director of Care at the nursing home that I would help out as much as I could this summer so that her regular staff could get their holidays.
It works out all the way around because I get to add all these hours to my five year total to maintain my RN registration.  The money is not bad either!!!!

Saturday, July 9/2011

Another work day has come and gone and yes it did rain again today.  I just don't know what I would do if it didn't rain on a daily basis!!
The garden is loving this rain though and I picked some lettuce for one of my co-workers and will take it to her tomorrow.
John and Hogan had yet another quiet day today.

Friday, July 8/2011

I walked to work in the rain again today.  This is becoming a habit!!
Home again and another good day was had by all.  John managed to get the grass cut between all the little rain showers today and man does it ever look good.  Take that you lousy thistles!!
Of course all the walking on uneven ground plays havoc with John's leg, so it is aching pretty good tonight.  I felt it was only right that I take a few tylenol for him and go to bed!!  I am working again tomorrow.

Thursday, July 7/2011

It is raining this morning and since I am working, it just does not matter.  I grabbed the umbrella and off I went.  Hi Ho Hi Ho, it's off to work I go.....
Finally home (12 hours is a long shift) and a good day was had by all.  Well...except maybe Hogan.  John and him went for a drive today and he was riding on the deck of the truck and somehow managed to fall off while going down the grid.  He got a bit of road rash and needed some Love from me when I got home.. Poor little fellow.  He was feeling a bit sad for himself.
It was into bed early for me as tomorrow was another work day.

Wednesday, July 6/2011

Someone should really cut the grass today.  As it has been raining off and on for the last few days, it seems to grow a few inches every day.  I have a personal war with the thistles these days.  They seem to think that it is totally okay to grow in my grass. This spring,  it was the dandelions that were causing me grief and now it is the thistles.  Well, we all know how the dandelions fared and you would think that the thistles would know better - stupid plants.
I got a call today from staffing asking if I would like to work for the next couple of days and quickly jumped at the chance to do so as I am getting a bit bored sitting doing nothing.   The daily rain is getting on my nerves so I might just as well go to work.
Since I was already scheduled to work the weekend, I got all my uniforms ironed and ready to go.  I truly am looking forward to tomorrow.
I think John is looking forward to me going as well!  As I have said before, sometimes 40 feet is just not enough room for the two of us!!

Tuesday, July 5/2011

Oh my, it was a big day for us today,  We travelled into Spiritwood today to take all the beer cans into Sarcan and got $115.00 dollars back!!  Woo Hoo!!
Enough to buy some "free" gas, groceries, a new garden sprinkler and even some money left over!!  What more could a girl ask for!!
I stopped by The Treasure Chest (where Shirley works) and picked up some farm eggs - they are awesome!!  I asked Beef if he needed anything from town and he asked me to pick him up some eggs for him too.
John stopped at the car wash before we left Spiritwood and re-washed "Old Blue" because I did not do a good enough job yesterday!!  Hard to do when there is no scrub brush to use and I will be damned if I am going to scrub that truck by hand!!  Let me think about that ---- NOT!!
Back in Leoville, Beef's eggs delivered, we were just in time for happy hour!!
What a tiring day we have had!!  Time for a campfire, a bit of supper, some TV and then to bed.

Well, the sun is shining as bright as it did yesterday morning.  It smells so fresh out this morning  after yesterday's rain.  The garden is smiling and the birds are singing,  Life is good.
I just got a text from Beef that he is ready for our walk so I had better get my arse into gear and head out.
Back from our walk (it is getting easier!!) and into the shower and then have a cup of coffee and relax for a bit.
I eventually took the laundry over to the laundromat and spent a few hours of "quiet" time over there.  Now the clothes are clean and I can now wait for the maid to come and clean the bus!!  Yea, like that is going to happen.
As it turned out, this was yet another quiet day for us.  Life is simple and quiet and relaxing.

Sunday, July 3/2011

Well the sun is shining like crazy and although it is early, already the temperature is hot!!   It could very easily be sunburn weather.  It is too hot to go into the garden and I think Beef said something about rototilling between the rows today.
Beef did come over and rototill the garden and it looks wonderful.  Gloria, his girlfriend text him and said that we were under a severe thunderstorm watch today.  As I gaze up into the sky and see nothing but blue, I find that hard to believe but hey, this is Saskatchewan and anything can and usually does happen!!
There is a football game today, the Saskatchewan Roughriders are playing the Edmonton Eskimos so we will have to get all the little jobs done around here before it starts.  Hopefully the Riders are bringing their "A" game today as the Eskimos will be out for blood.
Dave and Shirley came over during half time and John was so disappointed in the Rider's play that we sat outside and chatted with them.  Final score - Eskimos 42, Riders 28!!
Jeff (Dave's brother) was out for the weekend so the three of them came for a beer before Jeff had to drive back to the city.  They had been out on the quads and did some of the same trails we did yesterday.  Dave said he recognized our tracks.  They too saw several rabbits.
Jeff left and shortly after that, the weather turned real ugly.  I guess Gloria's warning was true.  The wind came up and the fork lightening was incredible.  It was close!!  The thunder rumbled and then the rain came - hard and on such a slant that it was coming in under the awnings!!  There was even a bit of rotation in the clouds and Dave was convinced that a tornado was a good possibility!!  Go on with you Dave!!  No really, Go on and make sure your back door is open because if I see a tornado, I am going to run across the road and down into your basement!!
The storm did not last very long but brought enough rain so that I will not have to water the garden tomorrow.
Once  Dave and Shirley left, it was time for supper, a bit of TV then off to bed.  Another good day was had by all!!

Old Blue
Our new addition to the Jeep family. J 10 4x4

Coming through

I am up early and the sun is shining again today.  There was a party going on all night and I am sure there will be some pretty thick heads this morning.  I hope everyone had fun as I am sure it will be a pretty quiet day around here today.
We took "Old Blue" out on the trails today and as you can see by the pics, we did find some mud and the winch was in use.  Actually, the truck did pretty darn good.  I was surprised.  Of course when it did get stuck it was a big slug and it is a good thing we have an 8000 lb winch on that baby!!
Hogan rode on deck for most of the day and did well although he definitely does not like to get "off camber" at all and tends to jump down.
We saw several rabbits and a porcupine today along the trail and they certainly did not appear to be too terribly concerned with us.
We got home in good time.  Hogan required a shower as he was covered in mud. By the time I had him clean, John had built a fire and we sat around it until supper was done.  Then it was time for bed.  Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Friday, July 1/2011

Happy Canada everyone.  Today is the day to be thankful we live in such a wonderful county and to be thankful for our way of life that is the best in the whole wide wold.  We are truly blessed to be raised and live in a country that has such high standards and values.  I have travelled to a few countries in my life and am truly  thankful that Canada is my home.
We were awakened early this morning (4:30 a.m.) by some knocking on our door and Hogan barking like crazy.  I got up to see who was there and saw one very dunk young man looking for his friends and a place to sleep.  He thought they were here and needed some harsh words from John to actually get him to leave the property and go look for his friends.  Poor guy!!
When I finally did get up for the day, I looked outside to see nothing but a million pages from a million newspapers flying around the streets and into the yards.  Apparently the grad kids had thought it was a great prank to pull on the town!!  I don't think the people that were cleaning up the mess thought this to be a wonderful prank, but as pranks go, this was petty harmless and easily cleaned up.  Believe me, it could have been so much worse!!
The sun is shining today and that is a good thing as the garden could certainly use it.  I picked a few more weeds from between the plants and now is waiting for Beef to bring the rototiller over and do between the rows. Then the garden will look awesome!!
John finished putting the winch on and it looks petty dang good sitting on the front bumper of "Old Blue".  We are now ready  for a trip onto the trails with it!!  Maybe we should go get some wood for the fire pit tomorrow.
Shirley came over with some baking she had done this morning so now John and I have dessert for supper!!
There ae two football games on today so we have to finish up all our chores before they start.  Then, we can just relax and enjoy the games.
Six hours of football is plenty for one day and it was after 10 o'clock before they wee done so it was time for bed.  John had cooked ribs on the BBQ between games and they were delicious so with my tummy full and all the right teams winning the games, it was off to bed for me.  Tomorrow is another day and one never knows what might be in store for us.

Thursday, June 30/2011

It is the last day of June and I can hardly believe that we have already spent 8 weeks here in Canada. The days are now getting shorter as we have passed the magic date of June 21st.
Today John is to get the fancy new winch on "Old Blue" (our latest acquisition) and hopefully get the tabs welded on to the bumper so that it can be towed behind the bus.
The garden requires my attention and being that I really don't have much on my agenda for today,  I decide to get out there and do some weeding.  It looks like it could rain again so it would be nice to get some of it done before that happens.
John started on the winch install when Gary came over (beer in hand) to check out the new truck.  Since it is rude to allow anyone to actually drink by themselves, we both had to stop for refreshments.  Dave soon appeared (beer in hand) to check out the work in progress - which now was not really "in progress" at all!!
There were several oohhs and aahhs  about the winch and the truck and then it started raining.  It was time to move the chairs under the awning and enjoy nature's watering can!!  It turned quite cold during the rain and we suspected that there was hail in the area.  Within 30 minutes, the rain was done and the sun was shining like crazy. Gary and Dave went home and John and I watched the first official game of the 2011 Canadian football season.
Once that was over and supper was done, John went out to start a fire. It has turned out to be a wonderful evening.  It is grad weekend in Leoville tonight and I am sure there is going to be a party or two in town tonight.
Beef stopped by and we sat around the fire and enjoyed good conversation, lots of laughs and a few refreshments.  Life is good!!
As we were sitting there, Beef noticed the Northern Lights had come out to provide some wonderful entertainment in the skies.   I thought that they really only appeared closer to the Fall but after doing a little research through Google, learned that they most often occur around the equinoxes.  Fascinating!!
What a pleasure it was watching them and I couldn't help but think how lucky we are to witness one of Nature's most beautiful phenomenons.  A nice way to end the evening.

Wednesday, June 29/2011

I awoke early feeling much better than the night before.  The sun was shining and was glistening off the water. We are parked beside the lake again.
I text Jan and lucked out as she was at home today and not working.  They had just returned from their family Reunion at the lake yesterday.  I headed over there for coffee and conversation before heading out to do all my running.
It sounded like Ronin and Caelan had a blast at the lake.  The butterflies were landing on Ronin's arms and he was in total awe of this.  Also, the squirrels were more than happy to eat all the peanuts he put out for them.  It sounded like Caelan was more than happy to eat them too!!
With all the coffeeing done, it was time for me to head out.  John was to meet the guy with the Jeep at two o'clock so I had better get into gear.
My fist stop of the day was to the optometrist to get my glasses straightened.  I fall asleep with them all to often and end up with them sitting a bit askew!  Next it was to Critters to pick up dog food, then to Walmart for as much of the rest as I can get.  I stopped at Canadian Tire for the welding wire then Peavy Mart for the cut off wheels.  Then, it was back to the bus for a rest!!  This shopping can get rather tiring!!
We met the guy with the Jeep, John liked what he saw and we bought it.  After a quick trip to SGI for the plates we drove it back to the bus.  We then hit Costco and bought  a winch for the darn thing then back to the bus to get ready to head back to Leoville.
It was so very hot today that we waited for a while for the temperature to cool off before leaving.  When we finally did head down the road, we had a tail wind, not that it  mattered to me, as I was driving the Jeep!!
We made it back to  Leoville by 8pm.
John took the truck over to show Dave, under the guise of delivering the 40 pounds of flour we had brought back for Shirley!! He apparently liked the truck and hopefully will weld some tabs on the bumper so that we can tow it behind the bus.
John and I sat outside while he cooked supper and we both said that we felt whipped. I guess it must have been the heat.  When supper was ready, we ate and watched who won The Voice on TV.  We had the fans blowing and the reverse air conditioner going while we watched and since the outside temp had cooled down, the inside temp in the bus was also getting cooler.  Any hotter, inside the bus and we would have had to turn on the actual air conditioner!!
It was off to bed for me after the show only to discover that the bus engine had heated the mattress on the drive up here!!  Oh sweet mother of God!!  I feel asleep with the fan blowing on me laying on top of all the covers!!We are definitely NOT going to need any covers tonight!!

Tuesday, June 28/2011

We are headed into Saskatoon today as John has found yet another "old" truck.  One we can use for a daily driver!!  It is an old 1980 Jeep half ton.  Jace went on the weekend and drove it for us and said he thought it was in great shape so here we go, to Saskatoon.
The drive down was uneventful and we arrived late in the evening when it was finally cool.  Casey and Tori came over for refreshments.  Roxy and Hogan played like silly dogs and chased rabbits.
Being that I had worked the night before, I was faded rather quickly and actually went to bed before they left.  Now how is that for being a good hostess!!
