Friday, June 25/2010

Mom finally received her blood today - 3 units so that should make her feel a bit better. Slowly but surely - she will hopefully improve enough to come home. This is where she feels the most comfortable and we will bring her home as soon as her condition will allow. It is a good thing that John and I are here to help. I hope that this provides a little comfort for Arnie and Shelly knowing that Mom will not be alone and that we can help her whenever necessary.
Arnie and Shelly back to the hospital and John and I muck around with this and that to pass the time.
I gave Hogan a bath today and he ran around like a goof after it. He was like a little puppy, jumping and rolling around. His legs have been giving him some grief lately and it was good to see him happy and carefree.
The birds love the new feeder and it is fun watching all their antics. Arnie has threatened me with dire consequences if Morgan's cat Phoenix claws holes in the insulated covering on the septic tank trying to get at the birds. I think I can run faster than him so I am not too worried!!

Thursday, June 23/2010

Arnie and Shelly up and headed to the hospital for an early visit so that they can be home early. Arnie wants to get the chainsaw going and start cutting more wood for the next bonfire.
Mom is holding her own but there are other issues looming in the background. Once Arnie and Shelly are home, the chainsaw is fired up and the wood pile is attacked. With Shelly and I as the official wood holders, we make quick work of about half the pile before we call it quits. It is back breaking work and Rome was not built in a day - right?
Before I started with the wood, I took my resume over to the health center/old folks home. I hope I might be able to pick up some hours over there for the summer. I found out that there was a full time position available so am sure hoping for some hours.
The day ended quietly with Shelly and I kicking John's and Arnie's asses in a set of kaiser. They had made the kaiser Gods angry by giving Shelly and I grief at supper. Don't mess with the Gods guys!!!

Wednesday, June 23/2010

Another day wondering about what is happening at the hospital. Still no blood transfusion but Mom is starting to feel a bit better.
It has not rained for a while and the gardens are in dire need of water. I put the sprinkler on and kept busy doing other things around the yard.
Arnie and Shelly came home with instructions to water the tomatoes. Mom must be starting to feel better.

Tuesday, June 22/2010

Today was spent trying to coordinate Mom's care. There is problems with crossmatching the blood and there is now a delay on the transfusion. Her pain remains although is better. She is still feeling poorly.
Arnie and Shelly have both decided to take the week off work and just concentrate on Mom.
It is hard to have to live your life around a relative in the hospital and they are doing the best they can.
I spent the time weeding the gardens and generally picking up the slack in the house and the yard.

Monday, June 21/2010

Today is the first day of summer!! We are up early (John exempt!) as Jace and Morgan are on their way home. School and work are calling.
Shelly will be on the phone trying to contact the docs in Saskatoon to update them on Mom's condition and the day will be centered around what needs to be done for her.
Once Shelly has spoken to the docs in Saskatoon, it has been decided that she will remain at Shellbrook and receive her treatments there. One headache averted and yet many more to come.
Shelly and Arnie were off to see Mom and John and I spent the day relaxing.
The samurai needed a much needed bath so off to the carwash Hogan and I went. It is marvelous how a bit of water can make such a difference. There really is a truck under that mud pile!!
Arnie and Shelly home and Mom not much better. Hopefully, tomorrow is better.

Sunday, June 20/2010

Leoville puts on an actual Father's Day Rally and the kids have decided to participate. Of course they have not had enough of the mud and wet and are raring to go again. They head out onto the trails with the hundreds of other riders. The adults, who are much wiser and perhaps a bit more stiff from yesterday's ride are staying in the yard to relax (or should I say recuperate).
Mom Larocque is really having trouble today and we decided that it is time for her to go into the hospital for some much needed pain control and IV fluids. The ambulance arrived in no time at all and I accompanied her to the hospital. Arnie and Shelly followed in the truck. After x-rays, IV fluids and pain killers, Mom was finally admitted and we were able to leave her in the hands of the doctors and nurses of Shellbrook Hospital. Tomorrow she is scheduled for her usual blood transfusion and drugs at the cancer center but we will make the necessary phone calls in the morning and go from there.
Back home, the kids are back from the trails and naturally upset that Grandma has been admitted to hospital. Now, all of us are in "wait and see" mode.
It is Sunday and people do have to get back to school and their jobs so everyone who has to go does, once again leaving the yard relatively quiet. Jace and Morgan will leave in the morning. We got back from the hospital late so had a quick supper and settled in for a quiet evening. Bed is calling as the kids have to be out of the yard by 7:00am.

Saturday, June 19/2010

Ride Day!!!! Shelly and I up early getting breakfast into everyone and once the dishes are done and the quads and the samurai are packed it is time to hit the trails. Mom Larocque is feeling lousy again (or should I say - still) and I am sure will welcome the peace and quiet that our departure will bring.
We head out onto the trails and the day is a riot. We had tons of fun and a million laughs. The kids managed to get wet and dirty and there were a billion pictures taken. As the day progressed Gloria was getting tired so a couple of quads headed back home while the rest of us continued on. Before they left, we noticed the infamous winch on the samurai was hanging down too far and that needed to be remedied before we continued. Easy fix -- take it off and send it home with one of the quads. Situation remedied and off we go again eventually getting back to the yard and starting supper.
The bonfire was great once again and after supper, the crowd soon started heading towards their beds and soon all was quiet in the yard. What a great day!!

Friday, June 18/2010

John is up early checking out the new truck. His foot remains quite swollen but not enough to deter him from the new truck. The winch (that damn near killed me) needed to be put on the truck and the guys started that job.
The kids will be arriving throughout the day as the weekend is finally upon us. The Father's Day Weekend is here and the ride is tomorrow!! The day is spent tweeking the new truck and transferring equipment from the tracker to the samurai.
Bayne, one of the friends here in Leoville is heading to Cold Lake to bring his girlfriend back for the weekend. This will be the first time anyone has met her. She has heard several stories about all of us so I am sure she must be nervous meeting us for the first time. It is tough meeting a bunch of rednecks!!!
As the day progressed, all the kids but Casey arrived. No one heard from him so he must not be coming - too bad. He must have other fish to fry this weekend. I miss the little man though.
Bayne arrived back home with Gloria in tow - she seems quite nice but is rather anxious about tomorrow's ride. She has been quadding before but not to the degree that we do. She is not used to rides that last past a few hours. If nothing else, tomorrow will be interesting.
We all sat around the bonfire tonight anticipating tomorrow ...... hurry up and sleep!!!

Thursday, June 17/2010

Up early and headed to our final destination where we were to met and buy the samurai. The transaction being done, we stopped and put plates of the new truck and headed for home. Rain is once again threatening. There has been so much rain in the southern part of our province that the rivers and creeks are swollen to capacity and in many instances, are overflowing. It is incredibly green here as well - a green that has not been seen in years. This area of the province is usually quite dry.
After several hours of driving, we finally make in back to Saskatoon where John gets this incredible idea to stop at Costco and buy a winch for the new truck. I know what a life saver having a winch is and I agree that since we are fueling up across the street from Costco, it would be foolish not to go and get one. I make the necessary purchase and then struggle my ass off getting the heavy thing into the truck. I finally get the job done but not before I totally strain my back and every other muscle in my body getting the bloody thing into the little truck. I curse the shit out of John for being so stupid and breaking his leg in Arizona and I am sure I left my ovaries behind, in the Costco parking lot!!!
Finally, we make it home to Leoville and wing night. Shelly and Gail have been cooking like crazy and things are ready to go. I am totally exhausted and John's foot is very swollen but we are home and we have a new baby!! John can hardly wait for the weekend and the first run!!
The wings were delicious and well worth the wait - I think I am tired - very very tired!!

Wednesday, June 16/2010

The weather has held, no rain and the painting continues. Today we can start on the outside walls. All the trim has been done and now it is time for the "good" stuff.
I will be returning to Leoville some time today so my time is short. I am finally ready, all the things that I needed to do while here is Saskatoon have been done so now I will paint until Arnie comes to get me. My knees say that it can't be soon enough!!!
John phoned all in a panic - he has found another Samurai truck here is Saskatchewan and wants to go buy it - surprise, surprise!! I make a mad dash to the bank for the money and get home in time for Arnie's call and the ride home.
Jan and I managed to get the whole back of the house painted and now she thinks that one piece of the trim needs to be darker, more contrasting. I agree, but that is a job for another day. Thank the Lord.
Arnie finally arrives and we head back to Leoville. I am so very tired. I have not had to do much in the way of physical labour since I retired. I am so out of shape it is shameful.
We arrive in Leoville and John is ready to head to southern Saskatchewan for the little samurai - he has already made the deal. The last thing I feel like doing, is take another road trip. Shelly had supper ready, and we quickly ate and in no time at all John and I were back on the road. We had to make a quick trip as Shelly and I had planned a "wing night" for tomorrow night and if we were to go, we had to be back in Leoville tomorrow night. Off we went - John drove all the way to Moose Jaw and to no one's surprise - it is freaking raining again!!

Tuesday, June 15/2010

The painting project continued throughout the day, and Jan and I actually got alot done. The final coat was finished around the windows and it is starting to look good. We made Ron cook us supper and it was delicious. I was very tired and once again climbed into the bathtub - oh sweet heaven. I really miss a bathtub in the motorhome - unfortunately, water is always an issue and a bathtub is not very practical - but - I can still miss one can't I?

Monday, June 14/2010

Jan and I are up early as per our usual routine. We have to head to the paint store and pick up the paint so we can start this rather ambitious task. My mammogram is set for 1:30 so that puts a bit of a kink into our painting plans but we will work around it.
Once I return, then it is full steam ahead. All the trim around the windows needed to be primed before we paint and we got that done in a few hours. Of course Jan decided that I could do all the area at ground level (that way I didn't have to climb the ladder) and she would do the high stuff. Little did we both know, all the crawling around on my knee this would entail so, by the time we were finished with all the primer, my knees were screaming and begging for relief. Did someone say bathtub!!! I must mention at this time that Jan also sent me in behind all the bushes and plants to paint and this is where all the spiders and bugs were!!! I think I heard her giggle a couple of times - the bag!!!

Sunday, June 13/2010

``````````````````````````````````````````````````Arnie and I headed into Saskatoon today. Shelly is staying in Leoville with Mom Larocque as she continues to feel poorly. John feels he is able to manage on his own and Shelly is there if he runs into any sort of trouble.
Last night, when I spoke to my sister on the phone she mentioned something about going to buy paint. She must want me to help paint one of the rooms in her house and since I will be there till Wednesday and will be staying with her, then it is the least I can do -- right?
Arnie will be going back to Leoville on Wednesday and I will catch a ride back with him. This gives me time to go for the annual mammogram, buy groceries and what ever else I have on the list and help Jan paint.
Arnie drops me off at Jan's and I find out that we are not painting a room in the house --- we are painting the entire outside of the house!!! Imagine my surprise when I heard that!! Gone are my plans of having a long leisurely visit with my sister. Instead, she is going to work me like a dog!!!
Saturday, June 12/2010
It is so nice to sleep in and just relax. Mom is a pretty quiet landlord and goes about doing things on her own. She is pretty independent and I have to keep reminding her to call for help if she needs it. She has been on her own for a long time, and independence is a hard thing to lose - no matter what age you are. She is such a sweet lady and I know she isn't feeling well - but she is still making bread and getting ready for the father's day weekend when once again our peace and quiet will be shattered by the commoners coming to party and get wet and cold on the trails. I can hardly wait!!!
Friday, June 11/2010
Quiet day today. I worked in the gardens for a while - no use doing all the work in one day. It is supposed to be a quiet weekend as no one is scheduled to appear so it will just be John and I and Mom Larocque. Time to catch up on sleep and replenish ourselves for the next big weekend - father's day.
Thursday, June 10/2010
Up early and headed into Saskatoon and surprise, surprise -- it is raining!!! What else is new. Mom Larocque has an appt at the cancer clinic. Heard from Erika again and the sun continues to shine in Wickenburg.
We got into Saskatoon in good time and Shelly met us at Value Village. I guess this is the way they do it when Mom Larocque comes into town.
We spent a few hours at RUH (getting blood drawn then seeing the doc at the Ca Clinic), hooked up with Arnie and went for lunch. We made a few stops after lunch then headed back to Leoville. Mom had to stop in Spiritwood at the Pharmacy for some prescription refills and we were back in Leoville at 6:00pm.
It was a long day and I was tired (I can imagine how tired Mom was). I made a quick supper then headed to bed. Good night. Oh, by the way, John thinks he made a deal on the other Sami - we may have to head to Alberta tomorrow!!! Road trip!!!
Wednesday, June 9/2010
We are official property owners!!!! I mentioned to Mat and Gail (the previous owners of the lot) that I had been over to the lot "stealing" lilacs from the "soon to be mine" trees and he said "Yes, I had heard that" and I had to chuckle - already the small town gossips were keeping track of John and I. When Wendy was here on the weekend, she had gone to visit her Mom on the farm and was asked if the "strangers" that were staying in Yvette"s yard were buying that lot from Mat and Gail? I will have to watch my "P"s and "Q"s now that Leoville is to be our home.
Once I was done in the lawyer's office I checked at the town office on a few things and found out that the town has a pending proposal that says that we have a year to build on the site and the house is to be no less than 800 sq. feet. It will be interesting to see when this actually comes into effect.
I walked across the street and got a post office box number as well. Does this mean that John and I are now official Leoville residents?
Tuesday, June 8/2010
There have still been periods of rain showers off and on for the last few days and today is no exception. I managed to get some of the weeding done in the two gardens and now that the rows are up, it makes the weeding much easier. The gardens are looking good and I think that we are going to have an abundance of vegetables this year.
I got a call from the owners of the lot we are buying in town here and the appt is set for tomorrow to see the lawyer. Finally - we will be property owners again.
John is still wheeling and dealing on another samurai - supposedly a "bush buggy" only.
Monday, June 7/2010
Last night, as we were sitting around the campfire, Jace got a call from Casey saying that he was stuck in the mud at the river around Duck Lake and needed help getting out. Jace informed him that he had been drinking beer most of the day and was not in any condition to drive to Duck Lake to tow him out. Solution - spend the night at the river and he will come get him in the morning.
Jace was up early(along with Arnie, Shelly and Myself) and after a quick breakfast was gone by 8:00am. He was headed to Duck Lake to rescue his dumb ass brother from the mud he was stuck in. I texted him around 11:00 to see if the mission was a success and he said it was. Jace did confirm that Casey still was a dumb ass which surprised me!!! NOT!!!
Shelly and I went and did laundry before her and Arnie left. It is really handy with the laundromat here in town and so much cheaper here than in the city. Mom Larocque has an appt in the city on Thursday and I will go with her and do the driving. Road trip!!!
John is busy wheeling and dealing on another Samurai - he is a busy man!!
Sunday, June 6/2010
The dogs had me up at 5:15 this morning and what the hell was that all about?? Don't they know I need my beauty rest? I guess when you got to go, you got to go!! They stayed out for 15 minutes and I finally was able to crawl back to bed by 5:30. A couple of minutes later I heard a rather pathetic growl coming from Coors (our pitbull granddog) and really paid no attention to it. It was probably just a bird or maybe a cow he was growling at. A few minutes later, I hear all this horrific yelling. John is immediately awake asking "what the hell" and I jump out of bed to see what the hell is happening, the dogs are going nuts and I see Pat outside in his PJ bottoms (good thing he doesn't sleep naked) prancing around the truck and trailer. What the Hell!! Apparently a couple of young native boys had opened his trailer door looking for stuff to steal (presumably alcohol) not knowing that someone was actually sleeping in there. Pat had heard them and that is when all the hollering started. The boys took off as quick as a wink, split up and were gone like dust in the wind. I noticed that the tracker door was open and Pat looked to see if anything had been taken and nothing had. I had taken both cameras out when we got home last night so other than our trail jackets and some wet stinky blankets, there was really nothing for them to take. The "invasion" had taken place a 5:40 and it was 6:00 by the time I got back to bed to grab a few more winks. Such excitement!!
The sun continued to shine for the rest of the day and we sat around chatting and getting things cleaned up for the next trail ride. We started a bonfire and pooled the food together and had supper . Morgan had to head back to Prince Albert and Pat, Wendy and the kids had to head to Big River. Jace is headed home tomorrow along with Arnie and Shelly. The evening remained pleasant and Jace kept the bonfire blazing - we are definitely kicking the crap out of the woodpile.
Saturday, June 5/2010
Woke up to clouds and rain threatening. What else is new - seems to be the norm this spring. We had decided to truck all the quads to Don and Betty's in Chitek Lake and start the ride from there. We were to have a steak BBQ at Don and Betty's so brought all the necessary fixings.
We hit the trails and the rain was still only a threat. It was actually quite pleasant out. The trails were really wet and as we suspected, all the water holes were full to overflowing. At least there was no dust!!
The tracker was unable to cross the bridge at Chitek as it was too narrow so we had to turn around and take a different trail. If we had had the samurai, it would have fit across the bridge without any problem as it is narrower than the tracker and perhaps even narrower that the rhinos. There are several trails in this area and picking an alternate was easy. We travelled from one mud hole to the next and John had trouble with a few. It is difficult for him to negotiate the tight turns when he is unable to work the clutch and the gas with only one foot. The "stick" doesn't work all that well unless we are on a relatively straight path. I thank the Lord that Jace was along for the ride as he helped us whenever we needed it. Actually, every one in the group helps us and we are never made to feel like we are a pain in ass to them!!
There was one mud hole where John had to finally admit defeat and have Jace drive the truck through it. With something under the hood smoking and the trail being under water, off camber and having to negotiate around a huge root system of a downed tree into a tight turn, it was virtually impossible for John to manage with only one foot. We finally got out and onto solid ground again and after a brief refreshment break, continued on. The rain was still only threatening and all in all, it was a pleasant day.
Pat had once again brought the chainsaw and it was used several times through out the day to provide the necessary width needed for the tracker. John was feeling a bit guilty about the guys always having to clear bush for us and at one point decided that he could push a relatively small tree over instead of waiting for the chainsaw. As it turned out -- a bad decision. We proceeded to indeed push the tree over - but it the process of doing so, the top snapped off and came crashing down on MY side of the windshield smashing the hell out of it!! GREAT!! By the time we give this truck to our son Casey, there will be nothing left of it!!! The sound of the tree hitting the glass was heard by most of the group. As you can see by the pics, we did a good job of the windshield!! Oh well, another easy fix and no one got hurt. The windshield had to be replaced anyway!!
As we continued down the trails, everyone took their turn at getting stuck and still the rain held off. What a great day. Before the ride, I had told Morgan and Jace that there was to be no kicking, punching, spitting or swearing at each other and neither one of the little brats were listening to me. It was good to see a smile on Jace's face and although I knew he was sad about the break up, he was having a good time on the trails.
As we continued on, John and I managed to get stuck in one more mud hole and in the process of winching out we managed to snap the clutch cable so had to finish the ride with out the benefit of a clutch. Another fix needed. I think by the time Casey gets this truck it will have completely new parts - good deal for him!!!
We eventually made it back to Don and Betty's (had only one bout of rain which lasted about 20 minutes) and started supper. As it turned out, the supper was great, the weather held and fun was had by all. We limped the tracker home and fell exhausted into bed. John's leg was aching and his foot was quite swollen - but - we had fun. Tomorrow is Sunday and God said that it is a day of rest. Good.
Friday, June 4/2010
Okay, today is the day. The tracker will be fixed and ready to go for the weekend and yes, the rain Gods did not let us down. I am currently trying to find the big umbrella so that it provides a bit of shelter for Bayne as he starts to put the new CV axles on the truck. OH, and don;t think for minute that John has not reminded us that it was his idea to put the truck in the garage -- Go stuff it John!!!
The replacing went well with only one little hitch which was an easy fix. The tracker is ready for tomorrow's trails. I can hardly wait!!
Jace called and said that he was coming for the weekend and was bringing Casey as well. Sounds good to me and I was excited to see both our boys. I had to make a quick trip to the store to pick up bacon and eggs as that is one of the things that the boys enjoy. John and I often eat turkey bacon and Jace has all sorts of rude names for it so I had to buy "real" bacon for him!!
As it turned out, Jace arrived with only the grand dog - Casey ditched him, he said. Morgan had arrived tonight as well for which I was glad as Jace was feeling sad as he had just broke up with his girlfriend. Morgan and him are like siblings and she was just what he needed. There is life after love and since the two of them are now both single they can both get on with enjoying life. They had decided that they would ride the trails tomorrow on Morgan's quad and were already fighting about who was riding and who was driving and I must say, Morgan takes a back seat to no one!! I think I may have to worry about Jace - Morgan just may kick his ass!!!
Arnie and Shelly arrived and Pat and Wendy were not too far behind with Pat's kids in tow. For what was supposed to be an adult only weekend, we sure had a lot of kids!!!
Thursday, June 4/2010
Okay -- so it is raining a bit today -- could this be an issue? I must say, that before we started ripping the parts off the tracker, there was a bit of a discussion as to whether or not we should put the truck into the garage and do the job. John said we should and Bayne and I overruled him - after all- we would be doing the actual labour and both Bayne and I wanted the brighter lighting that the great outdoors would provide and, it would only take a couple of hours to have the job done. As you well know ---- this took longer than expected and now, today, it is friggin raining again and both Bayne and I have to put up with John's "I told you so" bullshit!!!! I am SO going to push him out of that bloody chair!!!!!
Another road trip ensued and to our good luck, the axles had arrived AND they were the correct ones!! Woo Hoo!! Looks like a job for tomorrow. Oh, don't worry, it will be raining again tomorrow!!!
John phoned about the Sami and it is still not fixed so no trip back to Lloydminster planned yet.
Wednesday, June 3/2010
Sun is still shining and Bayne and I are off the Spiritwood to get the axles. Road trip!! We hustle into town in eager anticipation and with hope in our hearts, only to be crushed like bugs at Bumper to Bumper!! The axles didn't come in - BUT - they were "pretty sure" they had been ordered. One really does have to LOVE small town Saskatchewan!! Once we made sure that the axles had indeed been ordered, we left hoping they would arrive tomorrow. Back home we drove and just chilled for the rest of the day.
Tuesday, June 2/2010
What the heck is that bright yellow thing in the sky!!!! OMG -- could it be the ever elusive SUN!!!
There is so much water lying around that I am sure it will be days before the ground is dry.
Bayne came over and says that the sunshine will continue for another few days and that in itself is very pleasant news. We heard from Erika in Arizona and she said it is well into the 100s down there and one could easily fry an egg on the sidewalk!! She also said they had had NO rain since we had left and "what did that tell you"!! Could she mean that John and I have something to do with all this shitty, rainy weather???
With John comfortably sitting in the lawn chair, Bayne starts pulling the wheel off the tracker and getting to the "problem". John has once again assumed the role of Supervisor (one that he seems to be getting VERY good at). The parts all seem to come off really easily and we are soon ready to put on the new axle - only one problem ---- the new axle is MUCH longer than the one Bayne has just removed!!! This could definitely be an issue!!! HEY, I just picked up what was ordered!!! Good thing it is only Tuesday and we still have time to order the right one!! John makes all the necessary calls and while on the phone, Bayne notices that the left CV axle needs replacing also. Now isn't that great!! John ordered both axles from Bumper to Bumper in Spiritwood and even better news, they will arrive tomorrow!!! Yeah!!
Bayne removes all the parts and pieces from the left side as well and with the little truck up on blocks for the night, we are ready for the new axles tomorrow. We picked up all the tools and stored them away for use again tomorrow and by that time we all were a bit thirsty and the sun was still shining and life was good!! Beer please!!
Monday, June 1/2010
Finally back in Leoville and because of the almost continual rain, we parked in the driveway where all the gravel is. John didn't want to venture onto the grass where we were parked earlier because of the risk of sinking and getting stuck - so NOT cool!!
We had picked up a CV axle for the truck while we were in Saskatoon as we had heard the distinct sound of the grinding that one hears when the CV is going on the trail on the long weekend. Bayne came over and him and John decided that tomorrow would be a good day to replace the axle and get the tracker ready for the next adventure into the forest.
