We headed out on our road trip early.  Ray left even earlier as it is an all day affair for him to read meters.  I think he said there is something like 350 meters that require reading and with only two readers, well one can see why it takes all day to do it.
John, Kay and I headed over to the Apache Junction/Mesa area and since we left early enough, we did not encounter a lot of  rush hour traffic and that is a good thing.   There were two vans that John wanted to look at and luckily they were not too far apart.
Once again neither one was suitable.  The first had lots of exterior rust and the second had an obvious water leak and had extensive water damage.  It was almost a wasted trip but... alas....there was a Walmart so the day was not a complete bust!!  Kay and I went in and bought a few things for the trailer, like two more blinds and two mattress covers and four new pillows.  We looked for some garlic chives for Ray but once again, came away empty handed.
John decided to take a trip to Superstition Mountain and area.  Here we entered an old ghost town.  It was a real commercial set up but several of the original buildings still existed.  Many of them still usable.  One of which was the Mammoth Saloon.  Now, we are not ones to pass up an opportunity to check out a saloon so we parked the truck and went in.  The ambience of the saloon was incredible and had some pretty incredible artwork on the walls. They also had old, well used pairs of cowboy boots (hanging by the dozens) hanging from the ceiling in such a manner that all you could see when you looked up were the soles.  When I say well used, I mean it, as several pairs had the soles worn through.  Of course there were the usual dead animals hanging from the walls as well - this one actually had an albino buffalo head on the wall.  An old stage coached grace the saloon as well - this place was huge.  One of the waitresses actually dressed in the style of the era and that was rather neat to see.  She looked a bit like Miss Kitty from Gunsmoke!!
It would have been nice to have had the time to spend walking around the town but of course we had to start back home so, climbed back into the truck for the ride to Carefree and the Albertson's grocery store to see if they had any Twisted Tea in stock.
We had to stop at the bar along the highway for a burger and a beer again and by the time we arrived back home, Ray had only just arrived a few minutes ahead of us.
We then sat outside and watched the birds for a while before we gathered around the campfire for a few hours.  It was good to just sit and relax around the fire after a long day in the truck.
Tomorrow, Lorne and Marilyn are scheduled to arrive but we are not really expecting them to visit as they are probably arriving late and will be tired after their marathon of driving.
