We headed out to get some firewood today.  We might just as well make use of Casey's muscles while he is here with us.  With the truck gassed up and the new fancy chainsaw ready to go, we headed down the North grid and I was amazed to see that there were several large trees down - some of which had already been cleared off the grid by someone with a chainsaw.   Man, there must have been a hell of a wind in this area to take down trees of this size!!
With Beef's little trailer behind us, we headed down the Fire Tower Road where there has been lots of logging going on.  The loggers tend to leave lots of short trees around for scavengers such as us.   We stopped to dump the few tree branches and biodegradables out of the trailer and hear a loud  diesel engine sound coming towards us.  This turned out to be a huge logging truck heading into the bush to pick up a load of birch logs that had been left for him.  He was wondering about the upcoming bridge and the hill up the other side.  We told him that Case had come across the road the other night and although it was a bit rough, he should not have any trouble getting to where he needed to go.
With our destination just up ahead, we let both dogs run.  They seemed to have a bit of a competition between them as to who could run the fastest and  I must say that I think they are pretty even in that category.  Roxy however, tends to run directly in front of the truck,  out of sight and that can't be good!!  We had to slow down several times in order to see her - silly dog!!
It did not take us long to get a trailer full.  Casey hauled logs to the truck while John and I cut and stacked it.  On the way home, we stopped at the bridge and let the dogs swim.  Roxy is a powerful swimmer and looks like she loves being in the water.  Hogan likes it too and loves to fetch a stick.  By the end of their swim, Roxy was actually jumping into the water to get a head start on Hogan in getting the stick.  Hogan never ever jumps into the water - instead enters it with much more class!!
Once we got home, the trailer was unloaded and Casey returned it to Beef after taking it out into the ditch and sweeping out all the bark and dirt.  Dave and Shirley came over to check out the wood pile and when Casey returned, we made a game out of guessing how many swings of the axe it would take for him to split several of the logs.  Shirley was a better guesser than I was!!
John started a fire and we sat around enjoying the fruits of our labor until it was time for John to cook supper.  Steak and baked potatoes - awesome!!
It was decided that the trail ride that Casey has been waiting for would take place tomorrow.  I have decided not to go as I am working night shift tomorrow and since I know how these trail rides go, I will just stay here and rest for my upcoming shift.  Hell, these guys won't even be home by the time I head to work!!
