Well I looked at the left over beet juice this morning and said "ah,what the hell".  I  might just as well get another pot of beets going and use the left over juice.  So, out to the garden I go and come back in with enough beets for the final and I mean final batch of pickled beets.
It looks like it is going to be another nice day today and I really should cut the grass.  Of course with that new property, we now have even more grass to cut.  Great!!  Jace and Kim are coming up next weekend but I do not think I can look at messy long grass for another week!!
The last of the beets are done.  The left over juice is all used up and I am now officially done with beets.
I started cleaning the trailer a bit today although I did take time to watch the funeral service for Jack Layton (leader of the opposition party here in Canada)  who passed away earlier this week from cancer.
The funeral was incredible.  It was a State Funeral which in itself is unheard of for the leader of the opposition but I guess this tells us just what an incredible man he was and how the country felt about him that they would bestow this kind of an honor on him.  The sermon itself was touching and powerful and I am so glad that I took the time to watch it.
Gary has been fixing his quad now for a few days and has now got things all done.  He has taken it around town a few times and now thinks that it is ready for the trails.  He has decided to take a salt block out to the forest where he too is hoping to lure the deer in during hunting season.  John asked him which way he was headed "just in case".  That  proved to be a very good question because not too long after he left, we go a call from him  asking us to come and get him as his quad  had broken down.  Now that can't be good.
John headed down the road and found him sitting on his running board  with what I am sure was a rather defeated, dejected look on his face.  No one should have this kind of bad luck.  John doubled Gary home who then got his truck and trailer ready and headed back to the quad where he loaded it and brought it home.
Dave and Shirley, who had left for a birthday party for one of their grandchildren,  returned - much to our surprise.  They sure weren't gone long and we soon found out why.  Apparently the alternator went in their truck so they never even made it to the party.  They returned with very little juice left in the battery.  They got back in time to help us push Gary's quad off the trailer and into the garage.
While the guys were trying to diagnose the issues with Gary's quad while sitting here in the yard having a beer, Gary got a phone call from his ex-wife saying that their daughter had been involved in a car accident and was on her way to the hospital.   It took an hour before Gary found out that his daughter was going to be okay.   This is a scary reality we, as parent have to be prepared for and deal with.  With our children living their own lives and not in the same area as we are, this is always a possibility.   We can do nothing more than put good vibes out into the universe and hope for the best.
Dave decided he wanted to go for a trail ride to see if he can see any deer.  Apparently, Shirley and him saw a few young bucks back in the bush a few days ago and he wanted to check them out again.  With the four of us sitting in their Ford Explorer, we headed onto the trails.  We did see some deer although I don't think they were the ones Dave was looking for.  It was good to be out in the trails again and we did take a bit of a detour which ended up in a big mud hole that none of us were anxious to take on as we did not have a winch on the truck,  Instead, we turned around vowing to return to this trail on the quads.
Back at home, it was time for a campfire while John cooked supper.  It was awesome as usual and a good way to finish the day.
