Although there are a few clouds in the sky today, it is sunny none the less.  The kids are heading home today and Casey has decided that they will leave soon after breakfast.   That is probably a good thing as the cops will have several traffic stops out looking for the impaired and I am sure the fish cops will be stopping people as well looking for illegal fishermen.
I filled the kids up with breakfast then Casey took the quad over to the store to fill it up and stopped at the car wash to clean it off.  It now looks nice and clean - rather spiffy and ready to go on the next trip.
The kids headed home before noon and John and I were surrounded by peace and quiet - no dog fights (of which there were a few)!!  No blood, just a lot of growling and posturing - I hate that crap!!  Can't everybody just get along?
Shirley and Dave walked over with their three grandchildren.  Shirley's son and his wife stopped by for a quick visit and Shirley was beaming as she carried the baby (3 months old) in her arms wanting to introduce everyone to John and I.   Shirley has not seen her son in three years so had not seen her grandchildren either.  They have had two since she last saw them so needless to say, she was in Seventh Heaven - and rightly so!!  We had a short visit, then they returned to Shirley and Dave's where they loaded the kids up and headed back to Alberta.
Dave knew that Shirley would be colossally sad once the kids left so wandered over here and asked us if we wanted to go for a ride.  Both John and I were eager to go so we loaded up the jeep with "the necessities" and headed out.  Dave was going to show us where the beaver dam was that he absolutely loves to destroy.  I think he enjoys pissing off the industrious little creatures!!  We headed down the North Grid then into the trails towards the dam.  Unfortunately someone had beaten Dave to the necessary destruction of the dam (it floods the trail and jeopardizes the little bridge over the creek).  I truly believe he was disappointed!!  Hogan enjoyed frolicking in the water while we were there.   He just can't help himself - he loves the water!!
Next, Dave took us to a little lake he calls Buck Lake.  What an awesome little campsite here at this site.  Someone obviously enjoys this spot as there were tables, a fire pit, cut wood, a clothes line, even a mirror nailed to a tree (one must look good, even in the forest) all stored neatly waiting for the next camping trip.  There was no garbage around so who ever uses this site obviously cares about the forest.  It was good to see.  Dave tells us there are trout in this lake and I hope he invites me to fish it with him sometime.  There is a bit of a steep hill to get down to the lake's edge but one that is not insurmountable although after Shirley and I walked down to the lake, I was wondering if we were ever going to make it back to the top of the hill!!
Last year's plow wind took its toll on this area as well.   The number of huge trees lying down once again reminded us of the fury of this wind.  The sound of it must have been incredible and with no place to hide, it would have been so frightening to have been caught in it.  This wind was responsible for 2 deaths.  Again, a frightening reminder of the power of nature.
We continued our travels, taking the Vimy Tower trail through some of the clear cut logging going on in this area and eventually ended up at Vimy Lake.  Here, we sat for a good hour just enjoying the warmth on the sun and the tranquility the lake offers.  There were no fish jumping today and we did not see the beaver that inhabits the lake either.  It was incredibly peaceful - a true Zen moment!!
Back at the bus, John started a campfire and I quickly made a couple of pizzas.  With them cooking in the oven we all sat around enjoying the warmth of the fire.  Gary, came over for a visit and was unable to partake in the pizza as he was recovering from recent dental work and could not open his mouth wide enough.  His jaw was extremely sore so he had to just watch us pig out!!
Shirley had to work in the morning so everyone soon departed.  It was a nice way to finish off the long weekend - good food and good friends.  What more can one ask for.
