I am up early this morning and it looks to be rather dreary outside today. There is no snow so I guess we cannot complain. Everyday without snow is a good day!!
I checked out facebook (as I do everyday) and find that the folks in Leoville are currently without power as the snow that has fallen is so heavy it has caused trees to fall down across some lines and that makes for a poor start to their day!!
Today we will be travelling into Idaho. So far the weather has been good - no icy roads!! Who knows what today will bring but there are Mountains in our path today so I am sooo keeping my fingers crossed that our luck holds out.

Heading out
Montana 93 south
The Salmon River in Idaho
Idaho 93 South follows the Salmon River. At some points along the way it was pretty narrow and at others, it was your typical wide river. Several times today we saw people out standing in it fly fishing and there were several boats out as well. The river flowed with purpose and I am sure several hundred thousand gallons passed us!! Obviously it is a mecca for fishermen as there were several fishing accesses along the roadside.

At several points along the road, the river flowed right beside us but in just as many, the river flowed far below us as well and there were no guard rails along the side of the road to prevent one from "going over the edge. Luckily, the road was dry and so we had no issues but I can not image driving this glorified shelf road when the road is icy or snow covered. Now that would be just too much for the likes of me......I am sure I would have a stroke!!

The highway was obviously blasted through the rock.
We saw two herds of big horned sheep along this road. They were not on the road but were leisurely grazing along the side. They obviously were not too concerned with the traffic.

One of the VERY FEW guard rails!!

Our first mountain pass of the trip - summit 7400 feet with
very tight turns and snow on the side of the road.
Idaho 93 South provided us with some nice scenery and when we finally reached the summit of our first mountain pass, there was snow along the side of the highway but thankfully none on the road.   The snow had fallen previously but the salt crews had been out and for that I was very thankful!!  Once again I cannot tell you how thankful I was that we had missed Old Man Winter's initial display!!

Pretty darn quiet and picturesque
We used one of the many fishing access to park for the night. Since all of them take you directly down to the water, we will be lulled to sleep tonight by the sounds of the river gently flowing beside us. It was chilly out (we have not seen the sun for several days now) so we sat for one refreshment beside the truck while Hogan played fetch with the tennis ball then, headed into the camper so that I could make supper.
Another day of travel behind us and it was a good one.  We snuck over the pass unscathed and with no incidents. The truck is running great and that is always a good thing. Life is Good!!
