Today we are headed out to the snowmobile shelter on another one of the trails. John thinks that if we follow the snowmobile signs we will have no problem in finding it.  I couldn't help but laugh!!
Being Sunday and the Thanksgiving weekend, there are a few more campers and quadders in the area so we should not be the only ones on the trails.
We started out on the same trail we originally took heading North out of the staging area. The shelter was to the north of us so already we were headed in the right direction!!
It wasn't long before the snowmobile signs were no longer in existence (wonder how that happened) and we were off the main trail. Man, it is so easy to get off the main trail.
We knew the pipeline travelled north towards the shelter so we once again hooked up with it and continued on our adventure. The pipeline offered a variety of trail again today. Lots of uphill climbs and of course the corresponding downhill but there was also lots of mud holes to cross. There is way more mud up here and standing water than what I would have thought. We did pass a few other dirt bikers and quads and that was somewhat comforting....at least we were not the only people out on the trails today.
The scenery in itself was once again beautiful and although it was a bit overcast, it simply put a different hue on the fall colours.  Still breathtaking and awesome.
We eventually came across........A SIGN!!  Holy Shit.  And not too far down another one!! We were on a role and still headed in the right direction. We accessed a road and travelled that until we found yet another sign which pointed us in the direction of the snowmobile shelter. Another kilometer down the trail and there is was!!
It was an octogonal shaped building with a metal roof and metal siding. It had lots of tables in it, a wood stove, frying pans and other stuff that might be needed in a survival situation. It was pretty cool. We stayed here for a beverage and a bit of a rest then headed back down the dusty trail.
Since we had seen a few signs along the way, we were pretty confident that we could easily find our way back.....we simply had to stay heading south!!
We accessed several trails before finally finding our way back to camp.  With the waning day, the wind (which always seems to blow here) took on a chill and I was glad to be back at camp during day light.
Today's trails I think, were the best we had travelled so far.  We had such a variety of terrain and a few challenges along the way. At one point there was a sign that said AVALANCHE WARNING - PLEASE DETOUR.  It had an arrow on the sign and it was pointed over the edge of the trail which did not look like such a good idea!! WAY too far down for me!!
Tomorrow is again a rest day. There are two football games on and it is time for me to rest my sad sorry shoulders. Man, one would think I carried my quad over the trails instead of rode it!!  I cannot believe I am so very out of shape!! I wonder if John is having the same issues and just not saying anything!! LOL I choose to believe that he is!!
Once again, another great day.
While watching TV tonight, Marilyn text and asked if we had watched the news. Ya, like I am going to be watching the news when The Good Wife is on!! We said no and she said that there had been a grizzly bear attack in their area. Their neighbour had been out hunting with his father in law and one of them was mauled by a 500 pound male grizzly. The bear was shot in the process but the father in law (I think) was flown to Calgary hospital in critical condition.  John later watched the news and saw Lorne's interview with the reporter. Apparently all kinds of excitement for them with STARS, ambulance, cops, TV crew and conservation officers around. Grizzly bears are not all that uncommon in the Elk Valley where they live.
We are scheduled to stop at Lorne and Marilyn's next week and were to decide if we wanted to park up close to the house or at the end of Lorne's airplane runway near the Elk River.   Well, I guess that question has been answered......we will be staying CLOSE!!
