November 8/09

We left Price, Utah and made our way to Moab, Utah. It was an easy drive. We stopped to fuel up, dump the tanks and get water. One of the rules to RVing is that when there is water available - you fill your tank. That being done, we continued merrily on our way. John had read on the net of a boondocking area on Willow Spring Road so that is were we were headed. It was easy to find and once we were set up, we took the truck and went on a bit of a tour of the area. It has been 20 years since John and I were in this area. We found some nice twisty roads - good for the motorcycle. The weather here is great - supposed to be 70 degrees tomorrow. John was in his shorts today. The fall colors are still on the trees by the Colorado River. Once back at the motorhome we finished setting up camp. Camp is in the Utah desert. We are surrounded by juniper trees, sagebrush, cactus (little ones) and rock. It is the type of rock called slick rock which, contrary to it's name, is not slick at all. It indeed provides incredible traction for vehicles.
It is certainly a different feeling when you look out the window and see this landscape as opposed to the trees of the Northern Forest of Saskatchewan. What a diverse land we live in. When we arrived, the first thing I noticed was a ground cactus with all it's sharp spines poking out. I showed it to Hogan in the hopes that he would some how know to stay away from it. He stuck his nose right into it and I think I saw some blood on the end of it!! Silly city dog!! I think Hogan likes it here. He has been running around like a silly puppy checking out the lay of the land. Hope he doesn't find any rattlesnakes. We have seen no wildlife since we arrived.
John cooked the venison steaks we were given (from Jeff and Mary Hill of Hilger, Montana). They were tender and delicious. It brought back good memories from a few weeks ago so, HI to everyone back in Hilger and to Buster and Jack!! Spent time around the campfire then off to bed. More adventure tomorrow.
