Nov 10/09 Arches National Park & Scenic Hwy 279

Another motorcycle day today. We cruised Arches National Park where water, ice, extreme temperatures and underground salt movement, are responsible for the sculptured rock scenery. Over 2000 arches are within the Park and NO, John and I did not see them all!!
As time passes, the present arches are slowly eroding and new ones are forming. It is a continuously changing landscape and one that truly has to be seen to be totally appreciated. It is spectacular.
We viewed The Delicate Arch, The Balanced Rock and The Three Gossips. There were petrified sand dunes and several panoramic overlooks. We took pictures of them all and hopefully it gives our readers some idea as to the beauty and splendor of this area although the camera does not do it justice. The Balanced Rock and the Skyline Arch are the two pictures with the motorcycle in front of them. The American Indians travelled this area for years and left several petroglyphs on the rocks. I tried to capture some of the writing but am afraid it didn't turn out all that well.
Once done in the Park, we cruised the scenic Byway Hwy 279 which once again followed the Colorado River and ended up at a potash mine. It passed a few arches and the trailhead for the Poison Spider Trail which is a 4X4 trail, NOT motorcycle territory.
Headed into Moab, made an appointment for the hitch on the motorhome, stopped for refreshments at a local watering hole then headed back to the motorhome. Another great day!! We put 200kms on the bike today.
