Today is another "truck" road trip and we are headed to Lake Havasu City to see the London Bridge.  Yes, the original London Bridge from England.
It  is a relocated 1831 bridge that formally spanned the River Thames in London, England until it was dismantled in 1967.  Bought by Robert P McCulloch (a real estate/ oil tycoon) from the city of London, McCulloch had the exterior granite blocks from the original bridge numbered and shipped to Arizona to reconstruct the present bridge in Lake Havasu City - a planned community he established in 1964.  The bridge was completed in 1971 and links an island in the lake with the main part of Lake Havasu City.
It is a phenomenal attraction and a whole "London Bridge" resort has been built around the fully functioning bridge.  We did the touristy thing then carried on with our travels!!
Today, the goal is to access the interstate for a few miles then get off at Alamo Road.  According to the books, this back trail will take us to Alamo Lake.  It is supposedly a dead end trail but the map shows that there is a trail that actually will take us around the outer edge of the lake.  We will see!!
The scenery was phenomenal and the trail was well used.  We did eventually make it to the lake and the trail ended at the water's edge.  There were numerous water birds along the shoreline and several fish jumping out of the water.  Bass are plentiful in this lake.  We did find some awesome camping spots but it would be a long trip in to get to them.
With this trail an obvious dead end, we decided to try a few of the other roads we had seen coming down to the lake.  Perhaps one of these would take us around the lake.
After several failed attempts to find a through road, it was getting late so we decided to retrace our travel back down Alamo Road to the interstate then back to Parker.
We managed to see only one javalina on the way home which was rather surprising considering how far into the back country we were.
We eventually made it back to camp thus ending another long day.  What awesome scenery today though and the London Bridge was a nice bonus.
