Sunday, October 22/2017 - Tuesday, October24/2017

Sunday dawned with the sun shining and the birds singing.  It looks like it is going to be a nice day although there was a wind blowing.  Fortunately, it is pretty sheltered here in the campground as we are surrounded by tall poplar and oak trees and a lot of scrub bush so it acts as a great windbreak.
Booko has been in and out of the camper several times doing a perimeter check and generally keeping John and I safe from any wayward sparrow or chickadee!!  He is a great watchdog!!
Actually, I say that "tongue in cheek" because he is actually a very good watchdog.  When he uses his "big boy" bark, no one wants to get any closer!!  That was witnessed when one of our dear friends Jimmy,  attempted to come through the mancave door and Booko stopped him in his tracks just by his menacing growl.  Jimmy wanted no part of him and he had actually met Booko before.  That, I am thinking, is a very good thing.  Don't think we will have to worry too much about strangers coming into the yard!!
Sunday, of course is Football and today was no different.  Eventually though, John wandered out and started a fire and we sat around it for a few hours while supper cooked.  Tonight's supper was smoked pork chops (which Gloria gave us to try), boiled potatoes, gravy, peas and coleslaw.  I was not a fan of the pork chops but John quite enjoyed them.
Monday, another day here at the campground started off with sunshine again.  It is looking like it is going to be another nice Fall day.  John and Booko went for a walk up into the surrounding hills and came back with tales of "lots" of bear shit which Booko had to sniff!!   Apparently, each pile of it!!
We gathered more wood for the campfire and enjoyed it again tonight while our supper cooked.  Tonight, it was chicken and my special concoction of potatoes, onions, celery and carrots combined with butter and dry onion soup.  It was good although the veggies were a bit overdone.  No, I did not say burnt!!
On Tuesday, we decided to spend yet another day at the campground so collected a bit more wood for the campfire.  It seemed like a much nicer evening than what we had for the last few.  There was absolutely no wind what so ever.  It was quite pleasant and a very nice way to spend our last night here.   The coyotes serenaded us for a while and a few geese flew over as well.  They must have heard that there were going to be gale force winds over the upcoming few days and got out of the area before they had to deal with that!!  John and I may not be so lucky.

Heading out for a walk

All in all, it was a quiet and very peaceful time spent wasting a few days before we cross into the USA.  We are still a bit early but with the unpredictable weather and wind warnings that are out, one never knows when we will need to stop.  Better to park for the night than end up on our faces in the ditch!!   That would just be sooo un-cool!!  So far though......Life is Good.
