Starting our journey south

I arrived home Sunday morning after the final night shift of the season and was more than happy that it was over.  It was a busy one and it made me truly glad that I was finished working for this season. It is bittersweet though because I soooo enjoy my time at the nursing home.
I quickly hit the sheets and grabbed a few hours shut eye.   It felt good but I didn't want to sleep for too long.
Once awake, I threw a few loads of laundry in and got that done up and took a few more things over to Dave and Shirley's to store in their basement.  There are some things that just can't be frozen!!
John took the truck over to Dave's so that he could do some welding on the bar that holds the side by side onto the truck and once that was done, it was time for all of us to have a beer.
Gary had taken the day to get his boat winterized and was generally  feeling sad because he discovered that his downstairs freezer had quit and he had lost some meat in the process.  Now he has to figure out a way to get the thing up the stairs as there had been some renovations since the freezer was put into the basement.  He is thinking it will have to come out in pieces which doesn't really matter since it no longer works!!
It was a bit windy and chilly out so we all decided to sit in Dave and Shirley's garage to have our refreshments.  Shirley got out her little propane fire pit and we were soon all toasty and warm.  Gary eventually joined us and we sat around for a few hours and enjoyed the company.  This would be our last get together before John and I headed South.
It was quite a pleasant way to spend the evening.  All to soon, it was time to call it a day and John and I headed back to our man cave where he cooked our supper.  Steak, baked potatoes and good old Bush beans were on the menu.
I ate like a ravenous dog and then cleaned up the mess and headed for bed.  Tomorrow, all the final preparations will be done and we will be headed to Saskatoon to start our first leg of our journey South.

Kimmy cooking us supper

Monday dawned bright and early.  We got our final jobs done, said our final goodbyes to everyone and headed out of Leoville.   Arizona......here we come.
There had not been many geese flying over town lately so it is definitely time for us to head out.  We did see several along the ponds as we got closer to Saskatoon and that was a welcoming sight.  They hadn't left us behind!!
We arrived at the farm in good time and Kimmy arrived home from work shortly thereafter.   She said she was cooking stir fry for supper and I helped her cut all the veggies.  Before too long, it was ready and Bernie, Kimmy, John and I were chowing down.   Mmmm.......it was delicious and I must say, there sure wasn't much left after we got done with it!!  Gloria was away in Ottawa but will be home on Wednesday.
Tuesday, found John and I at the doctor's office to get our prescriptions renewed for the trip south.
Jace and Kimmy had taken "Ellie"(their truck) into the diesel repair shop a few weeks ago for some much needed repairs and while we were at our appointment, got a message saying that the truck was finally done and could John and I go pick it up!!  No problem, so, we headed over to the other side of town, picked up the truck and I drove it to Kimmy's work so she could check it out and drive it back to the farm.   I then drove Gloria's truck back to the farm and everything worked out just fine!!
Tuesday was also the day we had a HUGE wind warning come across the weather reports.  They were predicting winds into the 60 mph range and maybe even stronger.
As we were cooking supper, the wind did come up and man, did it blow.   Continuous wind and the trees were just whipping around.  John headed out to the camper to stow the satellite dish and when he got back into the house, told us that he had been hit by a shingle off the old barn on his way back in!!  Nasty Damn Wind!!
The wind continued all night long and it rocked the camper back and forth like a bloody circus ride!!  Holy Buckets....I have never felt anything like that before.  Apparently, there were a few wild fires that have been fueled by this wind and there are a few evacuations taking place in southern Saskatchewan!!   A couple of towns have been completely evacuated as the fires are totally out of control!!  We will keep our fingers crossed for all those affected and send nothing but hope and good thoughts their way.  We found out the following day that one volunteer fire fighter had been killed in the line of duty while battling the fires.  He apparently had an accident while driving a water truck.
The winds continued throughout Wednesday and I wondered if they would affect Gloria's plane from landing.  She is due back today so will have to keep my fingers crossed for her.
I was scheduled for an ultrasound on my shoulder today and headed into town only to realize that  I had forgotten my requisition back at the farm so had to turn around and get it.  Now, how do you suppose I managed that??   Holy Buckets!!
Once I got back to the farm, I phoned the radiology place and mentioned my stupidity so ended up having  to book the ultrasound for Thursday!!  Good Grief!!  Well, at least I only have to wait another day so it turned out fine.
I did have to do some shopping today so headed back into town and quickly did that before heading back to the farm.  The bloody wind was still blowing like a banshee and did not look like it was going to be stopping anytime soon!!
Gloria arrived home so that was a good thing and I quickly sent her a message that supper was already planned and she could just sit and rest for the rest of the day!!
Supper turned out to be quite tasty and once again, we all pigged out until we were stuffed full!!
Thursday arrived and I finally made it to the ultrasound building with my requisition in hand.  I was taken in promptly and was out quicker than I thought I would be.  It was good!!
I had some running around to do so got that done then headed back to the farm.  It is always nice to get back to the peace and quiet of the farm once you have been into the city and dealt with all the traffic and hustle and bustle that is Saskatoon.
Kelly was invited out for supper and Chinese Food was on the menu.  She arrived after work and Mason and Booko were reunited for the day.  Man, those two are sure funny to watch.  Mason is so tiny that Booko could simply deal with one bite yet Mason is never taking a back seat to him!!  He definitely has "little dog" syndrome and Booko definitely minds his manners around him for fear of Mason's retribution!!
The Chinese was as good as always and once we had cleaned up the mess, headed out to sit around the campfire that John had started.  It was still a bit windy but certainly not to the degree that we had to deal with the last few days!!  Gloria was still trying to catch up on her sleep and Bernie headed to bed early as well.   He still had to get up to drive the school bus in the morning so it was just Kelly, Kimmy, John and I around the fire.  The heat was awesome but all to soon, I was yawning and yearning for the bed so headed in to call it a day.  Kelly followed suit and that left John and Kimmy sitting by the fire for another hour or so.
Friday found Gloria and I back in Saskatoon to do some shopping.  I still had a few things to pick up for the trip South and Gloria had a few groceries to get.  Three hours later, we were done and headed back to the farm.  Kimmy arrived home and we sat around on the back deck enjoying the last of the evening weather.  Gloria had a ham in the oven along with scalloped potatoes.   Mmmm......another great meal coming up!!
Today John informed me that we were headed further South tomorrow and I was a bit shocked by the revelation.  I had yet to see Casey, or Jan, or his Mother!!  Good Grief....I was a bit sad to hear this as I usually spend several hours with my sister before leaving and usually take John's Mom out for lunch as well.  I guess that is not happening this year.
Saturday brought the rain and the cloudy weather.  It felt cold and damp and of course it just seemed to seep right into your bones.  I am not a fan of rain in the Fall.  It just seems colder and way more unfriendly.
Kimmy and Gloria headed out to attend a surprise birthday party for Kelly and John and I headed towards the South.  It was raining when we left but eventually we drove out of the bad weather and into sunshine.  Well.....just maybe, we will have a pleasant evening.

Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park

Homestead
Heading into the campground

We arrived at the Equestrian Campground at Sask Landing Provincial Park.  There was one truck and horse trailer parked there.  No one was around so obviously they were out riding their horses in this grassland.  It is very pretty around here and with the lake being just across the road, the geese and water foul were very noisy and abundant.
We got set up and then John started a fire.  Booko was busy sniffing around and checking out all the nooks and crannies of the campsite when we heard voices and knew our horseback riders were returning from their trip.
The horses were not too crazy about the fire and wouldn't really come too close so the riders loaded them into their trailer then walked over to say hello and enjoy the warmth of the fire before heading home.  Dave and Esther introduced themselves and we had a nice chat.  They come here fairly often to ride their horses.  Tomorrow, they would be riding again but to roundup their cattle and get them home for the winter.  It was that time of year.
Once they left, peace and quiet surrounded this awesome little campground and we were blessed to be serenaded by the coyotes.  They were very vocal tonight and John mentioned that Kimmy would be terrified with them being so close!!  Apparently she is not a fan of coyotes!!
We sat around the fire for several hours, enjoying the heat.  Booko was asleep on his bed (we had forgotten his chair) snuggled by the fire and under his "batman" blanket.  He too had had a busy day!!
Steak and baked potatoe was on the menu for tonight and it was delicious - as usual!!
The bed was soon calling and I piled into it and was asleep soon after my head hit the pillow.   Life is Good!
