Wednesday, November 11/2015

It is Remembrance Day today and once again we must take the time to acknowledge the service and sacrifice given by our brave men and women of the military to keep us safe from the evils of the world.  For this, we say Thank You.
It rained and the wind blew off and on all night long but this morning, the sun is out and it looks like it is going to be a pretty nice day today.  There is lots of snow sitting on the top of the mountains this morning and that was not there yesterday!!  The frost was on the ground around the camper but once the sun hit it, it was gone!!
We headed down the graded road just by the camper and took off into the unknown.  Before too long, we had seen a sign for the ever meandering Kokopelli's Trail and a sign to "The Top of the World" trail.  Now that sounded like a good climb and with the chill in the air, it probably would not be a good idea today.
We headed down yet another part of the Kokopelli Trail.  It started as a meandering trail through various sand and loose rock but eventually headed uphill and offered a pretty spectacular view of the nearby canyons and rock formations.  The sun was shining and the wind had settled to a breeze.  We stopped to enjoy the view and found ourselves descending down into a canyon and their climbing out of this same canyon on a rather narrow very rocky shelf trail.  Sooo not my favourite trail and I ended up walking some of it despite John's assurances that it was an easily ascended trail.   Well, heard THAT before and didn't like it then and sure didn't like it today.
We did a bit of rearranging of rocks and the side by side actually climbed the trail without any difficulty.  We finally got off the shelf trail, hit a graded trail and continued our journey.
We climbed to 6500 feet and were soon in about three to four inches of freshly fallen snow.  It was simply beautiful.  Of course I could not resist the urge to make a snow angel and did just that.  I did however have to ask John to help me up once I was done with my masterpiece.  There is something about getting up that reminds one that you are no longer a teenager!!
We sat on this trail for about an hour enjoying the warmth of the sunshine.  Once the sun started going down though, the chill returned to the air and it was time for us to head back to camp.
I was dreading that shelf trail back and had already started to tell myself that I could "do it" one more time when John said we would stay of the graded trail home.  I will forever be thankful for that!!
We arrived back in camp just as the bite of the cool evening wind was reminding us that it was November and time to huddle around the heater!!
It was nice enough for John to BBQ chicken and bake some potatoes for supper and once that was done, we settled into the camper to watch some TV and then head to bed.
