We were woken up early this morning (6:30) by Hogan growling.  When we looked out the window to see what his issue was we saw a herd of elk just in the tree line slowly grazing their way past the camper.  It was so cool to see them just meandering along.   They are beautiful creatures.
The sun is shining this morning and it looks like it will be a good travel day.  We are hoping to make it into Utah today and hopefully stay in The Valley Of The Gods.
Elk in the trees enjoying an early morning graze.

Heading out….

Sand drifting across the highway

Nasty ass wind today
We drove all day in the wind today.  It was nasty.  The power lines were whipping and we passed two motorhomes stopped on the side of the highway trying to deal with their awnings which were having a gay old time flapping in the breeze.  Both had no hope of ever getting them fixed!!  Looks like replacements will be needed!!
There was so much dust and sand drifting across the road that at times there was a significant reduction in visibility.  If I remember correctly, it was windy and nasty the last time we came this way.  Man, I can not imagine living with this constant wind!!

You know you are in Utah when you see rock
formations like this

Part of Monument Valley scenery
The landscape in this part of south eastern Utah is unique and oh so beautiful.  No where in the world is quite like this.  The sandstone offers a variety of colours and the shape of the rock is incredible.  I never tire looking at it.

Coming into Mexican Hat, Utah

San Juan River

Our camping spot for the night
We didn't stop at The Valley of the Gods to camp.  Instead, we continued a bit further down the road and camped at a neat little spot beside the San Juan River.  It was flowing pretty good and Hogan was rather curious so had to be told "NO"!!  I just couldn't see myself jumping in to save his ass.  The water was chilly!!

The wind continued throughout the evening and we eventually set the "campfire in a can" up in the trailer and John and I and Hogan sat in there where it was warm and the wind wasn't blowing.  We enjoyed a beer (or two) then had a wonderful spaghetti/meatball supper!!   I truly am a culinary genius!!
Too chilly and windy to sit outside.

The evidence!!
