May 2019

We arrived at Bernie and Glorias's farm on the first of May and got prepared for a busy week.   We had doctor and dentist appointments and tons of shopping to do before we headed to Leoville.
We also looked to a feed of the best made Chinese food in all the land.
Before we knew it, the week was over and we headed out on our final leg of our trip home,  We left for Leoville on the 9th of May.  It had been a long trek home but finally tonight, we would be there.
Gary came over that first night for a few beers.   Gee, I think he missed us!!     Life is Good!!
Heading out of the campsite bound for the farm outside

On the 15th of April, John and I headed to Tisdale to purchase a small Toyota truck for doing the trails around here.  I could no longer get into the side by side because of my ever deteriorating h
arthritic hip so John decided that this truck would work much better for us.

HOME....at last

Truckee - 1987 Toyota
He liked what he saw and pretty soon, he was driving it home with me following behind in the big truck.  We had no sooner arrived home and John had us loaded into the little red truck for a quick trip down the East road taking Booko for a run.

The rest of the month was very busy.  "Truckee" which had now become its name, was put to good use.  One time we travelled down the North Road t oUtah lake and then over to Otter Lake were we found the road in completely flooded and the water too deep to traverse.  We then headed over to Buck Lake for Booko to get his run in.  Booko loves to run and enjoys trying to catch the birds that cross his path!!
Utah Lake
One time we tried crossing from one grid to the other via the logging road and ALMOST made it.  Ww got horribly stuck and John got to try out the winch.  Unfortunately I was not much of a help as my hip was so bad that I couldn't get out of the truck.  I could however operate the winch from inside the truck once I made myself into a pretzel to get to the control and use my cane on the gas pedal!!  Miraculously we managed to get unstuck but not before the water had come in and my feet were soaked!!  I was not impressed and John was thinking this was the cat's ass!
BIG wolf track

Loon in the water at Buck Lake
One one occasion, we headed to Otter Lake on a minimally used back trail.  I think we had been on this particular trail several years ago but was not convinced this particular trail was even the right one!!  In pure  John style, he continues on and eventually we got to the lake.  Ya, I wanted to slap the smug look off his face that day to!!  We stopped for a beverage at Vimy and ended the day watching The Voice finale.
Snowmobile shelter down from 8 mile trail
On the 24th, Kay finally sold her fifth wheel so she made a quick trip to Nephi, Utah to clean it out and finalize the deal.  I'm sure it was a very busy and tiring weekend for her.  She had to work on Monday but she managed it without a hitch.
We had tons of rain again over the weekend and that would certainly guarantee muddy trails for Truckee.  Shit, oh dear...no good can come of this!!

We have finally made the decision to sell our big fifth wheel trails.  I'm unable to get into it because of my bad hips and because the stairs are so high.   So, it was cleaned up and pictures were taken so that it could go onto kijiji.

Casey's vehicle
Casey and Marissa came for a visit.  This would be the first time we actually get to meet Marissa.  Of course Casey wanted to  go for a ride (he had brought his big truck).  It was decided that we would head to "The Block" and do Lilac trail.  It was agreed that if we got stuck (and that would be when and not if) that they would man the winch.  Marissa I must say,  pulled winch cable most of the day like a champ.  And, she did it in her bare feet!!  Man, she was a beast.   Casey had to repair his clutch linkage several times along the trail and that took a fair amount of time so that added to the length of the day.  It was a very long day and I was exhausted and imagine Marissa was too.  I was sooo glad to finally make it home.  Needless to say, it was a very quiet day the next day and Marissa was pretty sore from pulling winch the previous day.  It was good to have a quiet day.

Headed to Lilac Trail

Buffalo beans - only grows in or near muskeg and bogs
The rest of the month was spent quietly.  The forest fires in Alberta was enfolding the town with smoke.  It was eerie when you are walking in the quiet of the morning when the smoke was actually touching the ground and then quite beautiful in the evening with the smoky orange sunset.
It was a busy month and we made lots of memories along the way.  Life is Good.
Another LONG day comes to an end
