Sunday, September 4/2016 - Saturday, September 10/2016

The temperature was down to +1 last night so the tomatoes had to be covered to prevent a possible freezing situation.  OK, it is definitely time to get the tomatoes picked and into the safety of the garage.  Shirley came over and together we got all the tomatoes picked along with the onions.  We got a HUGE rubbermaid bucket full of tomatoes and now she has the task of waiting for all of them to ripen and then canning them!!  I get out of this chore as I have no place to carry any significant number of canned tomatoes!!  Woo Hoo!!  I grow them, Shirley cans them!!  She also does some killer salsa too and Dave loves that.  It all works out.  Even Gary partakes in the booty!!  Life is good for all of us when it comes to the garden!!
This week, I only worked two shifts and that allowed me to continue getting the garden ready for the winter.  I decided to get the remaining cucumbers off the vines and to get the vines off the fence.  The weather has been generally lousy with lots of rain and the fall chill.
The elk are starting to whistle more and that is always a sure sign of the changing weather.
Arlene is supposed to be coming for a visit so it will be nice to see here again.  She is always good for a few laughs.  Gary will be looking forward to the  company and hopefully they will get some good fishing in.
John is busy working on the truck.  He now has the sides up on the driver's side and the gas tank is in place. No more carrying several gas cans for us.  We now have only one and it is permanently mounted in place on the truck.  The other side of the truck will carry the water tank so we will no longer be carrying any water jugs either.  The battery bank for the solar system will also be carried on the passenger side of the truck.  Once John is finished with this, we will once again be pretty darn self sufficient.  Life is good!!
