We will be crossing the border today - one day ahead of schedule.  It is only about an hour from Malta and after yesterday's marathon of driving neither John nor I are in a big hurry to leave.
We did manage to get the UPS package then we simply headed back to the truckstop to chill for a bit.  I got more time to catch up on the blog, straighten the camper out and get all the paperwork and passports ready for the crossing into Canada.
We refueled and took on propane then headed north the final USA leg of our journey home.
When we arrived at the border, a red traffic cone was in the lane preventing any further forward motion.  WHAT.....are we stuck here in the USA, so close yet so far away from home??
As it turned out, the US border crossing guards have always had the power to stop vehicles leaving the country to check on what they are taking out of the country.  In all our years of travel back and forth we have not had that experience as yet so today, was our lucky day.
The guard (a nice young man) was pleasant but did take the time to look in the back seat of the truck, the trailer and even glanced into the camper.   He was giving us the gears for being over on our quota of booze and laughing cause we would have to probably pay duty on it.   We told him we couldn't afford to drink in Canada as the beer was too expensive!!  He chuckled again and said "have a good day".  We thanked him and carried on to the Canada Customs boys.
Man, it is soo good to be home.  It doesn't matter how long you have been out of your own country, it is always nice to come home.
We were lucky enough to get the same Canada Customs Officer as last year and his smiling face was more than welcoming.  He asked us where we had been, how long we had been there and where we were headed.  He didn't even glance at our receipts and simply took our passports and ran them through his machine then came back to the truck and said have a safe trip!!  Thank you Sir......so good the be home.
Tonight we travelled to Saskatchewan Landing where we parked just outside the Equestrian Campground.  It is grassy and beautiful here and a nice welcome home as the sun is shining and it is warm.   We had to travel all the way back to Canada to get to the sun.   There is no cell phone service here and that sucks but......Life is good
