Sunday, February 16/2014 - Saturday, February 22/2014

Another busy week has come and gone.  Man, time flies around here.  The weather has been totally awesome - so much better than last year which was quite chilly for several weeks.  This year we are enjoying tons of sunshine while back home the folks are battling blizzards and cold temperatures.  Why, I almost feel guilty!!
On Sunday, we took a much needed day off and took a jeep trip into the back country.  We started at the small town of Yarnell.  This was the sight of that deadly wildfire last year that took the lives of 19 young firefighters of the Granite Mountain Hotshot Team.  All but one of the members were killed in this fire.  We stopped at the memorial site and paid our respects, took a look at some of the burn and marvelled at the miracle that left much of the town itself still standing.   I think there were over 200 homes that burnt in the fire but the sign coming into town said something along the lines of rebuilding and coming back even stronger.  Indominable Spirit lives in this small American town.
From Yarnell we headed over to Stanton Ghost town, travelled the ridge of the Hassayampa, dropped into Box Canyon and then home.  It was a great trip and a much needed rest was enjoyed.
Monday brought us back to reality and the need to get busy once again on the yard.  The garage/man cave was started and a few finishing touches were added to the fence and gates.
We watched a ton of Olympic coverage this week.  Canada is doing great.  There is an easy rivalry here in the park between us Canadians and our American neighbours.  Once either country is eliminated from the competitions, we automatically cheer for the other county.  All is good!!
Kay and Ray's friend Glen arrived on Wednesday from the Utah cold weather.  Kay and I drove to the airport to pick him up.  He will be here about 2 weeks for vacation so we are hoping he has lots of sunshine and is able to get some tan on his very white legs!!
Another trip to Home Depot was made for roofing material for the garage.  Gee….I thought we were done with them!!   NOT!!
The roof material (which was so darn heavy) went up thanks to the muscles of Mitch, Ray and Glen this week and Kay and I were responsible for screwing it down.  A thankless job but one that had to be done.
Once the roof was on, the siding was started and this thing is finally coming together as well.   I waterproofed the tongue and groove boards that John is going to use for the door to the garage so they are now ready for him when he gets to that part of the build.
I sent a quick email off to Lorne and Marilyn this week as well.  They will hopefully be here in Wickenburg around the 7th of March.  They are currently enjoying the Mexican sunshine.
We enjoyed several evening fires this week and a few awesome sunsets.  All in all, it was another great week.
