The sun was shining when I awoke but that was soon replaced by nasty looking storm clouds. There is thunder in the distance so I had better go get the lawn chairs in so that they are dry for later today.
It is a typical lazy Sunday and there are no real plans for anything.
John mentioned something about changing tires on the quad so that might get done today but who knows. It might be a totally lazy Sunday!!
Monday, the quad tires actually did get changed and John and I took a ride down to Deer Lake. Booko, I think was a little put out as he thought he was going to be riding with John as he usually does and when he had to stay at home.....well, he was a bit put out!!
We cruised to the lake and found that it was quite muddy (as usual) getting to the lake but really not all that bad. One would definitely need a four wheel drive and some fairly aggressive tires to pull your boat to the lake but it certainly could be done.
We had our usual adult beverage at the lake and marvelled at how high the water level was. The lake was "up" a lot from the winter snows and the recent rains. The water was crystal clear and we actually heard a few fish jumping. From Deer we headed along the trail to Heart Lake then took a bit of a detour over to Beau Creek. All in all, it was a good ride and we were home early to sit around the campfire. There was a lot of water on the trails and there must have been some hellish runoff earlier this Spring as there were huge gullies along parts of the trail where the water had carved its path.
This week, I started to clean out the storage trailer and managed to throw away years of paperwork. I had receipts, bank statements, etc from 10 and 12 years ago!! Good Grief....I may be a hoarder!! I got the fire roaring in the fire pit and proceeded to clear 11 years of corruption out of the shed. I still have more to do but at least it is a start!!
The new phone arrived on Tuesday and I was thrilled. I now had my "lifeline" back. Imagine my disappointment when I realized that the damn thing was not working properly!! It was devastating. It had taken so long to arrive and now it wasn't working properly. It had a mind of its own and I swear it was possessed!! I fought with it for two days and after several and I mean several attempts to dial the insurance company, I finally got through only to be told that perhaps they could repair it over the phone and I would have to call them back!! Well, shit, bugger, damn....it only took 18 attempts to get through to a person the first time as the phone would not allow me to punch in any numbers. Instead, it chose to pick random numbers and symbols on its own. I ended up using Gary's phone to contact the company again and, long story short, they are sending me a replacement ...for the replacement!!
CPR recertification was on the agenda for this week as well so I headed over to Evergreen for that 4 hour in service. I am now recertified and that is always a good thing.
Casey arrived on Friday with his girlfriend Megan and her little 15 month old daughter Gabriella. What a little cutie she is. Man, the energy level was hard to imagine. There has not been a small child in our lives for years and one certainly forgets all sorts of things that once were simply "part of life". Miss Gabby reminded us of just what we had forgotten!!
We had a really good visit with Casey and Megan and before we knew it, it was time for them to leave. We did get a few hands of Kaiser in and once again.....John and I kicked some ass!! We also were able to take a quick trip down the North Road and picked up a load of wood which Casey split. We now have enough for several fires and that is always a good thing.
It was a good week and as always.....Life is Good

Happy Mother's Day to all you Moms out there.
It started raining yesterday evening and I swear, it hasn't stopped all night. I awoke Sunday morning to the sound of rain on the trailer roof and although I love the sound......ENOUGH ALREADY!! I will not be able to get the darn garden rototilled for a while longer now!! Holy Buckets....of Rain!!
Tomorrow I start some scheduled shifts at the nursing home so will be busy this week. Before I know it, the week will be over......time flies!!
I arrived at the nursing home early Monday morning to start the first of four shifts this week only to be told that the town's water has been shut off. Apparently there is a problem with the sewer system so the water needed to be shut off so that the sewer would not back up and contaminate the supply. Well then, I guess we will be in "conserve water" mode. That being the case, no baths were done on our residents, no laundry and no dishwasher!! I must say, the situation called for some arrangements to be made and before too long, we had a pressurized water system going into the home from a couple of huge water tanks sitting in the parking lot. This water was to be used sparingly as there was no telling how long the town would be without water!! Apparently the sewer outlet was crushed or blocked and there were issues at the lift station as well. YIKES!! This could last a few days!! The town folk worked on the problem all night long and ended up laying a mile of new sewer pipe on top of the ground, bypassing the "issue" and having a functioning system up and running by late the following day!! They did a great job in a relatively short time and for that, I am sure everyone in town was thankful. The whole unfortunate business did not really affect John and I though as we get our water out of Gary's well and the camper has its own sewer system!! See.....sometimes living in a camper has its advantages!!
My shifts were long and I definitely am feeling the ache in my hip and back. Life sometimes sucks when you have to deal with discomfort but I can honestly say I am not alone in this as so many go through life with various discomforts. It does help though when one loves what they do and the shifts did go by rather quickly.
John cut grass again on Friday as the recent rains have caused it to grow like crazy. I started cleaning out the storage trailer and before too long it was 4'clock and happy hour was upon us!! Dave came over for a short visit and when I said that we were out of wood for tonight's campfire, Dave offered us some of his and that was awesome. John and I sat around the campfire (the first official "Leoville" campfire and enjoyed the evening and watched the Northern Lights. They were really dancing across the skies tonight.
Gary had gone into the city to pick Arlene up at the airport. She will be here for a few weeks visiting so it will be good to sit and chat with her for a while.
It was ribs and rice for supper tonight and I must say, the ribs were delicious and the rice phenomenal. Man, I am getting really good at opening those bags and popping them into the microwave!! I also made a quick salad so that rounded off the meal. Tomorrow, weather permitting, we will have another campfire and of course, being Saturday......steak night!! Woo Hoo....Life is Good!!

I heard an ambulance coming into town and watched it go straight up the North Road so wondered what kind of tragedy had fallen onto someone. It being the long weekend, there were lots of quadders out and about on the trails.
John and I went for a ride down the North Road and came across the RCMP coming back into town and the ambulance as well. Apparently there was a quad accident a bit further down the road. We did arrive at the scene to find two very smashed quads. It looks as if they ran into each other. The one quad had significant damage to the front end and the "driver's" side while the other had front end damage. No good would have come out of this collision and I am sure the ambulance had victims in the back of it. Both quads I am assuming were "right offs". All that remains now is speculation as to what happened and how it happened.
We met Dave and Shirley on the North Road and stopped for "road beers" with them. It started to rain while we were visiting so we loaded up and headed for home.
Dave and Shirley loaded up his quad and brought over another load of wood and then we sat around the campfire and enjoyed the heat. It was an awesome evening and being Saturday, ended it with a steak and baked potato meal. Life is Good!!

Monday, May 8/2017 - Saturday, May 13/2017
It started raining during the night and continued most of the day. Jace and Kim took off for Yorkton and John and I were now the only ones at the farm. Poor old Booko didn't even have his little buddy Neena to play with. It truly was a dismal day.
We were supposed to be heading to Leoville today but with all the bloody rain, John said he wasn't about to start packing up in the rain so I guess we are here for one more night.
It turned out to be a rather quiet day (not much to do in the rain) and that was not a bad thing. I managed to get the trailer cleaned up as it looked like a tornado had gone through the joint. I put clean clothes away, did dishes and did some general cleaning. Before too long, the place looked like new. John headed into the house to watch hockey and I stayed here in the trailer and watched The Voice. It was a good day,
On Tuesday, we awoke to sunshine!! WHAT!! Finally. I looked out onto all that front lawn that John had cut on Saturday and thought......"all this damn rain and Gloria will have to cut it again in a few days". It was gloriously green and looked awesome.
We packed up and headed towards Leoville. I had a few things to stop for along the route and Martinville was handy for that. We had lunch at A and W (hadn't had that since we left last fall), picked up 2 cases of beer ($45.00 each - and that was "on sale") and stopped at the local butcher shop for some much needed dog bones for Booko. I almost choked at the price of the beer as we had become accustomed to spending $20 bucks for a 30 pack in Arizona - not $45 for a 24 pack!!
With the shopping done, we were soon Leoville bound!!
It was soooo good to finally be home - the final stop on our journey.
The first person I saw walking down the road was my dear friend Shirley. She was just coming home from working at the Post Office. We had a quick chat and I said come on over for a visit in a while and she said her and Dave would indeed be over.
We needed water in the trailer so stopped at Gary's and were putting on water when he arrived home. Here we were, sitting in his lawn chairs, drinking an adult beverage and absconding with some of his water!! We are NOT very stealthy in our thievery!! Actually, we were not stealing, as Gary has given us permission to use the water whenever we are in need.
It was good to see him again after the long winter. He looked to have survived the winter unscathed although he said he had fallen off a ladder and his shoulder was still a bit sore.
We finished with the water, got the trailer situated in the yard and then sat around the yard for a while before the neighbours joined us. It was awesome to sit and "catch up" on their winter adventures.
Booko was restless. I don't know if he was missing the farm or just checking out the yard. He seemed unsettled. There was definitely more noise here in town as compared to the peace and quiet of the farm, not to mention, the peace and quiet of the park in Arizona. Hopefully he will settle into the new digs and will be happy.
Tuesday found John on the riding mower again but, here in the Leoville yard. Due to the early snowfall last fall, he was unable to get the final cut done so now, the grass was in need of a good cut. The lawnmower fired up easily and away he went. Before too long, the one side was done and John decided to move the Jayco trailer over. It is a bit more private and less noisy on the other side of the mancave. We got that done in no time then John moved the cargo trailer back over to the other side. It was musical trailer for a while!! The cargo had been stored beside the big 37 foot fifth wheel for the winter. Now, it would sit over on the other side until it sells. It is scheduled to go onto Kijiji when we get the new phone. We no longer have any use for it so we might as well sell it.
With all the trailers moved, it was soon time for an adult beverage. The sun was shining and it was awesome to sit in our yard and just rest!! John had taken the mower to the garden (much of it was left in disarray due to the early snow last fall) and it looked like it was ready for Sheldon and his rototiller. Unfortunately, that was not to be as there was two days of rain here before we arrived so it was still pretty wet.
Thursday found me working at Evergreen for an 8 hour night shift. One of the girls wanted to attend a nursing reunion so I agreed to work her hours so that she could attend. It was a good start to get me into gear for the summer work schedule!!
Friday found me working my first scheduled 12 hour night shift of the season. Considering how tired I was after the 8 hour shift the night before, I was not looking forward to it. Remarkably, I felt better after the 12 hour so hopefully things will continue as such!!
It rained for most of the night and thanks to Gail, my co worker, I didn't have to walk home in the pouring rain.....she borrowed me her umbrella!!
Saturday evening brought more rain but that was not going to stop John from BBQing Saturday Steak!! The little Weber BBQ is in the shop for just this reason. It was delicious and once again......Life is Good.
Wish we had some pictures to share of the last few days but SOMEONE dropped the phone in the toilet......not mentioning any names!! John tracked it through the UPS number and it is in Wyoming!! It is getting closer and will hopefully be here as scheduled on the 18th!!

The sun is shining and it looks like it is going to be another awesome day. Lots of yard work to do today before the kids headed to Yorkton on Monday.
Jace was on the lawnmower bright and early and Kim and I decided that the fire pit itself was WAY too big so decided to make it smaller and more user friendly.
John got his fire gloves on and started moving the fire bricks around. Kimmy helped him and before too long they had the fire pit down to a reasonable size. They then decided that the remaining "burn" area from the previous huge fire pit had to be dealt with so filled in the area with gravel. By the time they were finished, the spot looked awesome.
Kimmy got the weed whacker out and John trimmed the grass around the new fire pit and by the time they were done, it truly did look great.
Jace was done with the back grass by the time the fireplace was done so decided that some grass seed needed to be sown in the new dirt that Bernie had dumped over by the shop. Apparently, there was some seed left in one of Bernie's old trucks we could use. John and Kim went to find it along with another half bag in the house. I sowed it and John took the golf cart and packed it down. I told Kim that the "truck" seed was mostly husks - I think the mice got to it - so she would have to probably throw some more onto the area.
Once that was done, I took the weed whacker and started trimming around the house. Unfortunately, the wire ran out and I had to quit.
Jace and Kim washed the semi and John and I watched from the lawn chairs!!
The yard was looking pretty damn good and Gloria will be thrilled that all the grass is cut. She was planning on doing it when she returned from Yorkton. Now, she can rest and enjoy the scenery and the smell of fresh cut grass!!
John BBQ'd the ribs and Kimmy made rice. Thank heavens we didn't have to eat french fries!!
Supper was delicious and Jace was happy he got to eat ribs since he had missed them earlier in the week.
After supper we got into a heated game of Kaiser, Now last time we played the kids, they won (which is a rare thing for them!) so they were quite pleased with themselves! They came into the game quite confident. Needless to say the old folks were on their game and skunked them the first game and beat them the second game! We wagged our tails all the way to the trailer!!

Today, Gloria and Bernie headed to Yorkton to be with her Mom. There are funeral arrangements to be made and Gloria needed to be there for that. They left around noon.
Jace and Kimmy stayed at the farm. Jace was trying to find a driver to take his load to Red Deer so that he could join the family in Yorkton. As it turned out, he did find a driver and now would be able to go to the funeral without having to drive to Red Deer on Sunday, unload on Monday and then have to drive all the way to Yorkton Monday, for the funeral on Tuesday. That just made his life a whole lot easier.
Being that he was now free for the weekend, he headed into Saskatoon to get the Warman house finally all done up, hand over the keys and close that chapter in his and Kimmy's life.
He was sad that he had missed the BBQ ribs the other night so John said he would cook ribs on Sunday. Tonight, was for steak!!
When Jace left for the city (Kimmy had a wedding shower to attend) John got on the riding lawnmower and started cutting the grass. There is acres of grass that need to be cut at the farm and it takes hours to do.
John was on the tractor for at least five hours before the kids got back and they were surprised to see how much he got done. He had cut all the front grass and all the stuff in front of the shop. All that remained was the grass in the back and that would not take too long to do.
Alicia ( one of our "adopted" kids) came out to the farm to visit with us. She had heard that we were there from Jace so decided to scoot out and introduce us to her new puppy and have a visit. All the dogs got along well although her little Rottweiler pup was a bit nervous around Booko. By the end of the visit, he was much more comfortable with Booko.
Jace and Kim arrived back when she was there so we all had a good visit.
After that, it was time for supper and time to sit and enjoy the evening. John started a fire in the fireplace and we sat around it for a few hours enjoying the first "farm campfire" of the season. Bernie had stacked a ton of branches on the fire pit and once that started, the heat was pretty significant. Jace got the garden hose out (it is usually handy when the campfire is going) and sprayed the side of the nearby shed until the fire settled down. We were then able to sit comfortably around it not fearing that we were going to roast our knees!!
Amy came over for a short visit with her sweet little miniature pincher and sat around the fire as well. She stayed about an hour then headed on home.
Jace barbequed steak and was very sad when he burnt one side. Actually it wasn't all that bad and I did enjoy my steak. Jace was mad at himself and said that it was a good thing Dad was cooking tomorrow!! He was "over" this stupid BBQ of Bernie's!!
All in all, it has been a good day. John got some sunshine while he was cutting grass and was tired after his busy day. It was time for bed as there was lots of stuff to do tomorrow around the yard.

Jace and Kimmy stayed at the farm. Jace was trying to find a driver to take his load to Red Deer so that he could join the family in Yorkton. As it turned out, he did find a driver and now would be able to go to the funeral without having to drive to Red Deer on Sunday, unload on Monday and then have to drive all the way to Yorkton Monday, for the funeral on Tuesday. That just made his life a whole lot easier.
Being that he was now free for the weekend, he headed into Saskatoon to get the Warman house finally all done up, hand over the keys and close that chapter in his and Kimmy's life.
He was sad that he had missed the BBQ ribs the other night so John said he would cook ribs on Sunday. Tonight, was for steak!!
When Jace left for the city (Kimmy had a wedding shower to attend) John got on the riding lawnmower and started cutting the grass. There is acres of grass that need to be cut at the farm and it takes hours to do.
John was on the tractor for at least five hours before the kids got back and they were surprised to see how much he got done. He had cut all the front grass and all the stuff in front of the shop. All that remained was the grass in the back and that would not take too long to do.
Alicia ( one of our "adopted" kids) came out to the farm to visit with us. She had heard that we were there from Jace so decided to scoot out and introduce us to her new puppy and have a visit. All the dogs got along well although her little Rottweiler pup was a bit nervous around Booko. By the end of the visit, he was much more comfortable with Booko.
Jace and Kim arrived back when she was there so we all had a good visit.
After that, it was time for supper and time to sit and enjoy the evening. John started a fire in the fireplace and we sat around it for a few hours enjoying the first "farm campfire" of the season. Bernie had stacked a ton of branches on the fire pit and once that started, the heat was pretty significant. Jace got the garden hose out (it is usually handy when the campfire is going) and sprayed the side of the nearby shed until the fire settled down. We were then able to sit comfortably around it not fearing that we were going to roast our knees!!
Amy came over for a short visit with her sweet little miniature pincher and sat around the fire as well. She stayed about an hour then headed on home.
Jace barbequed steak and was very sad when he burnt one side. Actually it wasn't all that bad and I did enjoy my steak. Jace was mad at himself and said that it was a good thing Dad was cooking tomorrow!! He was "over" this stupid BBQ of Bernie's!!
All in all, it has been a good day. John got some sunshine while he was cutting grass and was tired after his busy day. It was time for bed as there was lots of stuff to do tomorrow around the yard.

It is the day for the dentist and eye doctor.
I was up early and sitting in the lawn chair enjoying the early morning sunshine when Bernie got off the school bus, walked over and informed me that he had gotten a call from Gloria's brother Garth that their Dad had passed away in his sleep. He had been suffering with uncontrolled stomach pain for some time now and had been having a tough time over the last few years. He had just been transferred to a long term care facility and had only been there a few days.
Gloria was due to arrive at the airport around noon and Bernie would have the unpleasant task of telling her about her Dad. The only solace to be had would be that he was now out of pain and finally able to rest. As I told Gloria when I saw her.... It was something we had all hoped for but never really wanted.
Jace arrived home and we all sat around on the front deck as it was far too hot to be on the back deck. It was awesome really as far as the weather went although the mood was understandably subdued.
While sitting on the deck we occasionally got a whiff of skunk and we actually mentioned it a few times. The dogs were out running around the yard and rolling in the grass having a great time. That was until they decided to join us on the deck and then we REALLY got a whiff of skunk. Well, the little jerks had obviously found something interesting!! Jace went out investigate and found what remained of a dead skunk.....Jesus, Mary and Joseph!! Stupid Ass Dogs!! He took the shovel and relocated the carcass and yelled at all the dogs!!
Supper was to be our treat. Every time we hit the farm, we have Chinese food once during our stay. Tonight was the night. No one felt like cooking so we ordered and Bernie and I headed to Dundurn to pick it up. Casey arrived just as we were headed out so we picked him up some as well. His girlfriend Megan had her kids with them and her son was not feeling well so they headed back to the city with him as there would be no partying tonight.
Supper was delicious.
Karen (Kim's sister) came for a quick visit. Understandably, she wanted to be with her Mom tonight.
John and I headed back over to the camper soon after supper and watched the rest of the hockey game before calling it a day.
Tomorrow, there would be decisions for Gloria to make. Tonight, she needs to rest up for the emotional turmoil that will be her upcoming week.
Life is Good despite the fact that death is part of it.

Shopping day today....the one I missed yesterday!! I headed into town early as there were several things that needed to be done before our doctor's appointment this afternoon. Remarkably, I got lots of it done and was home in plenty of time to pick John up and head back into the city.
Our doctor's appts went well. I got the "witch's wart" (as John calls it) zapped from the palm of my left hand and John got a couple of moles zapped on his back. All in all, we are both still healthy, give or take a few aches and pains. The doc cranked on my arthritic hip, made it ache and said I really needed to deal with it so will go see a specialist as soon as I get the appointment made. Looks like there is a hip replacement coming my way!!
John was cooking ribs tonight on the BBQ and we were going to have Asian Salad with that and French Fries. I was not impressed with the french fry aspect of the meal but was outvoted by the poor culinary taste of Bernie, Kim and John. Gosh....the things I have to put up with!! I guess I will have to close my eyes when I see them put french fries beside their ribs!! Jace was supposed to have joined us but the company chose to send him to Regina for a load so he will be home tomorrow along with Gloria.
It was a wonderful evening. The weather was great and we sat outside until supper was ready and the evening chill set in.
Bernie decided he needed a "Kracken" ( some sort of "really good" spiced rum) and asked if I cared for one. "Sure" I said and enjoyed two of them.
I had left the phone outside and decided that it needed to be "saved" from the weather so went and got it and put it in my back pocket. Before the night was over the phone ended up in the toilet and I was in panic mode!! "Kimmy....get me some rice."
Kimmy had a bag of rice handy and in went the phone. I mentioned that she was really quick on getting that bag of rice to me and she said....."Oh, Bernie has a bag on hand all the time as he has dropped his phone into water several times." I was "happy" to hear that as it gave me hope that our phone would be saved too.
I went to bed mad at myself tonight......who takes their phone into the bathroom anyway? LOSERS, that's who!!
Life is Good though.....even for phone dropping losers!!
