Sunday, June 2/2013

Finally home from my night shift and glad that I am now off for a few days.  I headed to bed for some much needed rest as I am hoping to do a few things in the yard today when I get up.
I didn't hear John get out of bed as I was once again dead to the world.  I did hear the riding lawn mower start up and noted that it was 2:00 p.m. and time for me to get up.
With my coffee in hand, I sat outside to wake up and decided what I was going to do for the day.  I didn't have much energy so decided that hauling the hose out and getting the garden watered would be plenty!!  It is a tough job sitting in the lawn chair watching the sprinkler water the garden!!
John got the grass cut and then decided to tidy up the shop.  I sat and watched him do both!!  I like this side of me!!
Eventually we decided to take a ride down the North road to go and get some wood.  Since I have a few days off, a campfire would be nice so we took the old blue jeep and headed off.  There is plenty of clear cut forest around and the guys leave tons of small cut up chunks of wood.  Hell, one doesn't even need a chainsaw!!
We returned home with a good load of wood and John got a fire going and we sat around it until supper was ready.  Steak and baked potatoes were on the menu today.
We chatted with Kay for a while.  She is headed back to work in the morning.  Apparently their crew has to re-do the piece of road they did last week as the pavement did not get the right degree of compaction due to the cold temperatures so it needs to be all done over again.  Bummer!!  She did say it was "cold" there last week.  Maybe the boss should have listened to her!!
It was bed for me after I ate.  I am tired.  Four day stretches at the nursing home are tiring and I need my beauty rest!!

Saturday, June 1/2013

One night shift down and one more to go.  I am so tired this morning.  I am still fighting this bloody cough and cold crap and I must say,  I can't seem to get a leg up on it.  It is hanging on like ""stink on a skunk"!!
I am off to the sweet joy of sleep now,  knowing that tonight will be the last shift for a few days.   Can't wait to be on days off!!     Good Night!!
Awake and so glad that this is my last night.  Days off tomorrow and I think it is time for another quad ride.  Woo Hoo!!
John was busy getting all the vehicles we want to sell on kijiji so hopefully everything sells and we can get rid of more "stuff" from the shop and the yard.
OK, I am off to work.......

Friday, May 31/2013

Wow, it is already the end of May.  John and I have been back for a month already and I am not sure just where the time has gone.  I guess the saying...time flies when you are having fun,  really is true!!
It is cloudy outside this morning and it sure looks like there could be a rain shower.  That is ok as the garden could use a good soaking.
The dandelions are really looking like they are sick and dying and today I really should go and finish the job.  I left a few out by the fence and around the area where Jace and Kim's camper is sitting.
I really don't have too much planned for today as I have to work nights tonight so will conserve my energy for later when all the little lovies at the home need to be put to bed.

Another day of work is ahead of me and I am still struggling with this bloody cough and cold.  Holy Buckets, when is the crap going to start getting better????
Home from work and so very glad to be able to sit and relax.  At least tomorrow, I am working a night shift so do not have to get up in the morning!!  That will be better.  I like my mornings to myself!!
The dandelions are dying so I think it is safe to say  I Won The War!!   Take that you dirty stinking weeds!!
Heading to bed now and am looking forward to my free morning tomorrow!!

Wednesday, May 29/2013

I am off to work this morning and it looks like there just may be some rain in the forecast.  It is a bit cloudy so maybe the garden will get a bit of a boost.
Finally back home from my day "at the office".  I am tired.  This cold is sure making my life a bit rougher than it needs to be so I am once again off to bed.
John was busy mucking around in the shop again today and did get the blue truck over to the garage for the fixing of the steering box.  Gee, we won't have to keep putting power steering fluid into it now.  Bummer!!
It did rain a bit and my garden is looking happy.

Tuesday, May 28/2013

The sun is shining this morning and it looks like it is going to be an awesome day to plant the garden and wage war on the dandelions.
Once  I had my morning coffee and cruised Facebook, I got into gear.
I had the garden planted in a few hours and now all it has to do is rain over the next few days and it will be growing like crazy.  I can't wait to see the first of the seeds starting to peak through!!
Once that was done, I started on the dandelions.  Man, they are everywhere.  I thought I had a good kill last year but obviously...I was wrong!!  (Now that is most unusual!!)
The sun was shining so hard that I had to take a few breaks in the war of the dandelions as I was "breaking a bead"!!  I had all day to complete this task so there was no hurry.
Eventually happy hour rolled around and I was compelled to sit and relax.
Dave came over for a short visit.  He had taken his boat out to Poplar Ridge Lake to fish for trout and had come home with one for supper.
Shirley rolled in from work shortly after he arrived.  She is headed into the city later this week for an appointment with an eye specialist.  She has some sort of issues with her right eye so is going to get that checked out.
Once they left, John and I headed into the man cave for a bit while we waited for supper to cook.  I had put a turkey breast into the slow cooker so now I will have enough left overs to take to work.  I am starting a four shift stretch tomorrow.
With supper done, we enjoyed a quiet evening.  I headed to bed early as tomorrow morning will come soon enough.

Monday, May 27/2013

John and I had planned on a quad ride today so once again we loaded up and headed out.  I don't think Hogan is too impressed with us leaving him behind.  John thinks he is going to somehow rig up something so that he is able to ride behind one of us.  That could be harder than what he expects as Hogan is not too enthused about climbing onto the quad since I dumped him off it last year and he skidded across the road on his chin.  It was an accident...ok!!
We headed down the road towards 'The Block" making our first stop at the little white church to pay our respects to the dead.  It has become a tradition to make this our first beverage stop.  Even the dead, I imagine, enjoy a cold beer!!  At least in my Heaven they do!!
We then continued into the block stopping along the way to pick up cans and bottles discarded by careless quadders or snowmobilers.  John and I have decided to use the money we get from all the cans towards our gas for the season.  We might just as well let others pay for some of our gas!!
Once again, we were surprised at just how little mud and water was lying in the trails.  We maneuvered ourselves through the trail without any difficulty and found our next beverage stop at Deer Lake.  It was beautiful and quiet and the trout that inhabit the lake we jumping and enjoying all kinds of bug treats!!  It was good to be back in the forest.  Well, except for the damn mosquitoes who seemed to just come in swarms.  Thank Heavens for 40% Deet!!
The trail along the lake was easily passable and we soon found ourselves at the Otter Lake Trail.  We decided to to check out this trail and 30 minutes later, were enjoying another refreshment break on the shores of Otter Lake.  What a great day in the forest.  The lake itself was much lower than what  I expected, but it was certainly still pretty and once again, oh so peaceful.
We headed back towards home, taking the "upper" detour along Deer Lake and once again stopping at the boat launch.  We then continued out of the block and decided to take 3 Mile
At the Church

Deer Lake

Winding our way down the trail to Otter Lake

Marie at Otter Lake

Little Island in the middle of Otter Lake

Beaver Lodge on Otter Lake

Stopped along Beau Creek on the way out

Two Sand Hill Cranes in the distance
trail home.  Lots of water remains on this trail but we managed without incident.
Our last stop of course was the grid and then it was home to the bus.  Another good day in the forest was behind us.
John cooked ribs on the BBQ and it was accompanied by rice and broccoli.   Mmmmm....what a great way to end an awesome day.
I have to plant the garden tomorrow since I did not quite get around to it today and the dandelions think they have found a permanent home.  My Killex will certainly put a crimp in their style tomorrow as well!!
