Shopping day today....the one I missed yesterday!!  I headed into town early as there were several things that needed to be done before our doctor's appointment this afternoon.  Remarkably, I got lots of it done and was home in plenty of time to pick John up and head back into the city.
Our doctor's appts went well.  I got the "witch's wart" (as John calls it) zapped from the palm of my left hand and John got a couple of moles zapped on his back.  All in all, we are both still healthy, give or take a few aches and pains.  The doc cranked on my arthritic hip, made it ache and said I really needed to deal with it so will go see a specialist as soon as I get the appointment made.  Looks like there is a hip replacement coming my way!!
John was cooking ribs tonight on the BBQ and we were going to have Asian Salad with that and French Fries.  I was not impressed with the french fry aspect of the meal but was outvoted by the poor culinary taste of  Bernie, Kim and John.   Gosh....the things I have to put up with!!  I guess I will have to close my eyes when I see them put french fries beside their ribs!!  Jace was supposed to have joined us but the company chose to send him to Regina for a load so he will be home tomorrow along with Gloria.
It was a wonderful evening.   The weather was great and we sat outside until supper was ready and the evening chill set in.
Bernie decided he needed a "Kracken" ( some sort of "really good" spiced rum) and asked if I cared for one.  "Sure" I said and enjoyed two of them.
I had left the phone outside and decided that it needed to be "saved" from the weather so went and got it and put it in my back pocket.  Before the night was over the phone ended up in the toilet and I was in panic mode!!   "Kimmy....get me some rice."
Kimmy had a bag of rice handy and in went the phone.  I mentioned that she was really quick on getting that bag of rice to me and she said....."Oh, Bernie has a bag on hand all the time as he has dropped his phone into water several times."   I was "happy" to hear that as it gave me hope that our phone would be saved too.
I went to bed mad at myself tonight......who takes their phone into the bathroom anyway?  LOSERS, that's who!!
Life is Good though.....even for phone dropping losers!!

Gloria headed off to Ottawa today so Bernie was up REAL early in order to get her to the airport on time.  Today is also the start of all our appointments and it is Mammogram day for me.
The appointment was for 10:00 o'clock so I headed out early as the office had moved and I was not too sure as to where it was.  As it turned out, it was a very good thing that I did leave early as I had forgot the address and left the phone at home!!  Cool!!
I knew the vicinity it was in but as the time grew closer to ten, I decided that I would stop and ask someone.   I went into a Nail/Tanning Salon thinking that I might have pretty good luck asking there. Well, the girl in there looked as if I was speaking in a foreign language so I politely thanked her and went into the business beside the salon.   My time was running out!!
It turned out to be some sort of "techy" store and there was a pleasant young man at the desk.  GREAT I thought.... I am sure he is going to know!!  He had a real nice smile so I thought....go for it Marie...this guy has a Mom and maybe a sister or two!!  Of course he didn't know where the joint was but he said "let's look it up on the computer"  and I said "great".  Before too long I had the address, thanked the sweet young man and also said...."and my boobs thank you!!"  I am sure, had he not been black, he would have been blushing!!  I arrived 5 minutes late for my appointment but they were behind on their appointments so everything worked out great.
After the mammogram, I headed over to my sister's home and ended up staying the whole day with her.  We had a most awesome visit and it was great.  We had not had the opportunity to actually spend a day together for years.  It will be a day that I treasure forever.  We talked about everything and nothing and we both enjoyed it.
It was finally time for me to head back to the farm and when I arrived with only a small bag of groceries, John was shocked.   "Is that all?" he said!!  He had though I had gone into town to do some shopping and, I actually did but my visit with Jan was soooo much more important than hitting Walmart that shopping went out the window.  Tomorrow there will be time for that!!
Before I left the farm this morning, I had put a corned beef into the slow cooker.  It was smelling pretty damn good by the time I got home so all that was really left to do was get the cabbage into the oven and peel the potatoes.  With that being done, I joined Bernie, John and Kim on the deck and we enjoyed several adult beverages before heading inside to eat and watch the hockey game.
Supper was delicious (no surprise there) and Kimmy, who had been dreading the day because she had never eaten corned beef before (is that even possible??) raved about how good supper was!!  Holy Buckets!!
Another day on the farm closes and Life is Good!!

Tuesday, May 2/2017

I had the worst sleep of my life last night.  I was awake for 3/4 of the night.  Finally, I had had enough of this bull shit and got up and took a gravol tablet!!  An hour later, I was sleeping and did not wake till 9:45!!  What the hell, half the day is over already!!  That just sucks!!
The weather is looking rather gloomy but it isn't rainy so we will be glad of that.  Perhaps later, we will be able to sit on the back deck of the house and maybe, just maybe there will be some sunshine.
I have laundry to do today as all our appointments start on Wednesday and making room to do laundry when you are running in between the doctor, the dentist, the optometrist, etc is a bit tricky!!
Gloria has to leave for Ottawa early tomorrow morning and won't be back until Friday and by then, there is supposed to be LOTS of sunshine.
The evening turned out to be rather nice and Bernie, John, Kimmy and I were able to sit on the back deck for a while.  The evening chill arrived and we headed into the house, watched the hockey game and ate supper.
It was another good day at the farm enjoying the birds and the quiet cadence of "farm" life.  Kimmy and Jace will not be sad about deciding to move here.
Life is  Good!!

Monday, May 1/2017

It rained off and on for most of the night so needless to say, the ground around the yard held a few puddles this morning.  Booko didn't seem to mind though as he went outside to continue checking out the property!!  He is still limping this morning although I don't think it looks to be as bad as yesterday.   I will continue to monitor that situation though and if need be, get him over to the vet before leaving for Leoville.
With the skies being overcast today, there would be no sitting on the back deck enjoying the sunshine.  It would be a quiet day for the most part and that would be a good thing as tonight, after Kimmy gets off work, we are headed to the house in Warman to do some final cleaning.
Most of the stuff has been moved to the farm and all that really remains is the clean up.  Gloria and I will be driving to pick up Kim at work, then driving her to the shop to pick up her truck (Jace left it there when he climbed into the semi this morning) where she will meet Karen (her sister) and we will all travel to Warman where we will meet Bernie and John.  It sounds complicated but really isn't.  Bernie and John will load garbage onto his truck while we clean, help with any heavy lifting and once everything is done, we will head over to one of the local restaurants for supper.
The cleaning went well and supper was delicious.  I had dry ribs and caesar salad while John had fish and chips.  A few beer with the meal and then we were headed home.  It was close the 9:00 when we arrived back at the farm and thankfully, it was only the bed frame and mattress that had to be transferred into the house along with fridge and freezer stuff so that didn't take too long.
All of us were then headed to our beds!!
Both Booko and Coors accompanied us to Warman and they too were glad to be home I am sure!! All in all, very little remains now to be done at the Warman house so when Jace returns home from his latest trip, that stuff will be gathered and either taken to the truck shop or garbaged or brought to the farm.  Another day over and done and Life is Good!!

Buzzard flying over the farm yard

Sunday, April 30/2017

I was up early and eager to get going.  Today, we would be at the farm and would be seeing some of the family.  I was wondering what Booko would think of all the cats and was anticipating their encounter with a bit of trepidation.
It was a two hour trip to the farm and when we arrived, there was lots of activity which is not uncommon.  There is always something "up" at the farm!!
Kimmy came running out of the shop (beer in hand) and I got my first Kimmy hug in many months!! There was company at the farm in the form of one of the racing fellows visiting and Jace and Kimmy's friends Mandy and Shaun visiting.
It was good to see everyone and we soon settled into the shop and had a few adult beverages and chatted.
Booko was busy checking out the farm and generally irritating the hell out of his cousin Coors.  Him being much older really had no patience with him and kept his kong in his mouth growling every time Booko got close!!  He is such an old fart!!  He is on prednisone for his bad leg and it really has caused him to gain weight.  He is a happy old fellow just could not be bothered by "young pups"!!
Neena, the newest member of Jace and Kimmy's family was not sure what to do about Booko.  She is a 5 month old pug cross and Booko was WAY too much for her!!  She stayed pretty close to Grandma Gloria but they did sniff noses and at one point she got down and attempted to play.  Booko of course is not very graceful and rather a "big lug".  He doesn't know how to play gently so we had to really watch him that he didn't inadvertently stomp her!!
Eventually, we headed into the house (Fuzzy's territory).  Now Fuzzy, is the "Grand Dame" of the farm.  She rules the roost and there is no damn dog going to come into her territory unless they know the hierarchy!!   Of course Booko came charging into the house and went right up to her and in about 2 seconds, she batted his nose and taught him who was who!!   There were no more altercations after that and it really was quite peaceful for the most part.
There are five cats at the farm at none of them are afraid of dogs.  the dogs who visit here all know the rules and there really is no problem.  A few of the cats will even "play" with the dogs!!   Now, Booko had only encountered Kay's cats - Moglie and Corinna and,  neither one of them could be bothered with  him.  They simply hid from him or they "creeped" him when he was sleeping.  Well, the farm cats were not hiding so either you had to deal with them or stay outside and THAT was not going to happen!!
Mandy and Shaun stayed for supper and then headed home soon after that.  John and I headed out to the camper around nine as everyone had to work in the morning.
Booko went outside and little Neena was chasing him around after supper and Booko being the graceful lug that he is somehow managed to slam into the stairs on the back deck and hurt his right back leg.  Good Grief!!  He is now limping and not really putting any weight on it so will have to monitor that situation.
It sounds like Gloria and I are going to be helping clean up the Warman house tomorrow after Kimmy gets off work so that will keep us busy for a bit.  Guess I better head to bed so that I can get my beauty rest!
All in all, it was a great day.  We are back home among family and LIfe is Good!!

We started out today headed for Malta, Montana to top up on propane, fill the gas tank and then continue on to the border.  We will be camping in CANADA tonight and I will be sooo glad to get back into our own country.  It is always soooo nice to be back home.
The border crossing was uneventful and we were on our way within 10 or 15 minutes.
The weather looked anything but inviting as there were huge ugly storm clouds hanging around and it looked like we were headed right into the heart of the storm.
Of course the road conditions had not improved and we bumped along weaving right and left to avoid the worst of the potholes.   Man, how does this road not rate "the worst road in Saskatchewan" title!!
It wasn't too long before we saw bolts of lightning and soon the wind and the rains came.  It was quite nasty and I was certainly glad when we finally got to Swift Current and saw blue skies and white cumulus clouds.  Could this mean that we were going to have a nice evening??
We camped at the equestrian campground at Saskatchewan Landing.  It is a lovely area and was awesome for the peace and tranquility.  There was even wood for a nice fire and at $18.00 a night, it was a steal of a deal.
John built a fire and we settled around it like a couple of fire and smoke hungry fools.  It had been so long since we had a real fire that I am sure we were having smoke inhalation withdrawal!!
Booko was loving the open area and roamed freely for the rest of the evening.  Our only hope was that he did not encounter a skunk or a porcupine!!  The ruffed grouse, well, we didn't really have to worry about him!!
The surrounding trees were full of very happy birds and they sat around singing and entertaining us all evening.  We even got to hear the "yapping" of the area coyotes!!  Booko heard them too but couldn't be bothered to even getting out of his lawn chair.  He was snuggled under the "batman" blanket and was warm and cozy!!
Saturday night meant steak night and baked potatoes  AND, since Kay was not with us..... a can of Bush Brown Beans (she really hates them)!!  Not that she ever stopped us from open a can!!  LOL
Supper was delicious and that it was our first steak back in Canada....well that made it even more special!!
Tomorrow, we will be at the farm and one step closer to being "home".   Life, truly is Good!!

Friday, April 28/2017

Up early again this morning and the sky is looking a bit lighter out.  It ALMOST looks like we just may see the sunshine!!   At least it is not raining.
Last night, when I went to make the bed (we have a murphy bed in our little Jayco trailer) I noticed that the sheets were damp along the top edge!!  What the hell is this all about," I said to John.  Now, being a man, he tried to tell me the sheets were just cold!!  No...they were wet!!  "Well how is that possible?" he asks.
Well, this thirty thousand dollar Jayco trailer is really a piece of shit!! I really like this little trailer, it truly is ideal for John and I but there are a few things that we have discovered on our travels that really make me mad.  We went with a Jayco because they were such good trailers but, after travelling in and out of snow and rain for the last few days, we have noted another area that lacks the legendary Jayco workmanship.  An open gap that lies somewhere behind the mattress - this will have to be investigated and perhaps when the trailer goes in for the warranty work, this area can be addressed.
For tonight, we simply switched the sheets and blankets end for end and I settled in to read my kindle while John mucked around with the blog.
Booko has been out running around on the acres of grass here in this little park and is working off some stored up energy.  He does not stray too far from camp and comes back rather quickly when we call.  If he forgets to come, we use the training collar and give it a "beep" and he quickly runs home.  I really like that collar.  It has made listen and obey much better!!

heading out of the campsite at Roundup, Montana
We were soon back on the road again and headed north.  Each mile brings us closer to Home Sweet Home!!   It was a short day again today as we called it quits near Zortman, Montana.
There is a rather large open area nestled in the pine trees and equates to what we would call a "community pasture' back home.  It was quiet and grassy and a good place to stop for the night.

The old elevator in Roundup, Montana
One of the very few curves in the road!!
We weren't camped very long before one of the locals driving by on the road came to investigate what we were doing.  Man, talk about "rural crime watch"!!  He was not aggressive in any manner,  just wanted to know what we were up to.  We told him that we were camping just overnight and had been doing so for a few years now in this particular spot.  He was rather surprised by that and mentioned that he had never seen us there before.   He mentioned that the local farmers were about to release some cattle into this area and we said to feel free, they wouldn't bother us and we were only there for the night.  He asked where we were from and spent about 20 minutes or so chatting.  He had to leave soon to pick up his daughter at the Zortman store as he had missed the school bus and when ever that happened, the bus driver dropped her off at the store.  I asked where the kids went to school around here and he said Malta and that was a 57 mile trip (one way).  Man, that is a real long day for these kids.  She had to be on the bus at 7:30 in the morning!!   Holy Buckets!!

A long straight shot
The evening was quiet with a bit of rain.  John went outside to turn on the power button for the inverter and heard wolves howling to one another.  He called me and unfortunately, by the time I got outside, they were quiet.  I did however hear the coyotes during the night and I swear, they were right beside the camper.  Booko seemed unconcerned as he was snug and warm inside the camper.  Life is Good for him too!!

Lots of antelope in the nearby fields
