Woke up today to peace and quiet - no whining from the stray dog!! Hogan looked for him a bit yesterday and I noticed when I let him out this morning, he looked again. Poor Hogan, but, it is better this way. Can't imagine leaving the stray here to try and survive in this desert.
The sun is once again shining like crazy and I did notice that it was getting much colder back at home so I must quickly get an email off to my Sister reminding her to bundle up and stay warm!! Only then will I feel right about going out into the sunshine to read my book!!

Tuesday, January 5/2010

Okay, today is the day. It's me against the stray - come on - man is at the top of the food chain - surely I can outsmart a damn dog!! Wish me luck.
FINALLY!!!! I managed to catch him!! I was able to get a hold of his leg and when I did, you would have thought I was killing the darn thing. He was yelping and jumping around - threw himself on the ground and at one point I thought I had a hold of an alligator and he was about to do the death roll!! Poor Hogan didn't know what to do so he joined into the melee and I then had two dogs to wrestle!! Oh my shattered Nerves!!
When I got to the Humane Society I was told that they only take strays that have been found in the city and since I had found him outside the city, he wasn't in their jurisdiction, and since I had been feeding him for a week he was considered MY dog. I said, " I live in a motorhome and this was NOT MY DOG!!" (I could only imagine what John would say if I ended up bringing this damn dog back to the motorhome!!!).
Just then, the dog sat up in the passenger seat of the truck looking like he could be your best friend and the lady said "So, you found him around the Safeway parking lot??" and I quickly said YES!! She then called the dogcatcher who eventually came and in turn surrendered the stray to the Humane Society. I was so grateful I left a donation !!! Thank the Good Lord for compassionate women and Safeway parking lots!!
I returned home in time to get in a bit of suntanning then, John and I headed into town for a few refreshments before returning home to watch the Canadians lose the gold medal to the Americans in the Junior Hockey Finals.
All in all, another great day!!

I spent much of the day trying to catch the stray dog. He really needs to go into the Humane Society. He is a lovely dog and will definitely make someone a good pet -- if, I could only catch him. He lets me pat him but once I try to put a leash on him - he is gone. NOW WHAT?? Hogan is not much of a helper and John has all sorts of suggestions but nothing is working. So, I ask myself -- Who is the smarter one?
Maybe I will have better luck tomorrow.
As I sit and contemplate my strategy for tomorrow, I am given the most incredible sunsets to see. At times like this I know that John and I are blessed to be given the opportunity to see sights such as this.

Woke up this morning to the sound of coyotes and they sounded like they were right in the campsite. Poor Hogan was quite bugged and was growling like a REAL dog. It was still dark out and I wondered where the stray was but imagined that if he indeed was a stray he had encountered them before and knew how to handle himself. When I finally did get out of bed the sun was shining and he was curled up asleep by the trailer.
The weather is great, the sun shining and I could certainly get used to this!! I sure don't miss the cold and the snow!!
The dogs played all day and the weekend campers left and before too long it was pretty quiet in the neighborhood.
I really need to do something about that dog --- tomorrow. Thought I had better take a picture of him for the blog.

Saturday, January 2/2010

It is the weekend and I assume the Humane Society is closed so I don't have to deal with this darn dog for a couple of days. He is not really hurting anybody and is really quite well behaved. He comes when he is called but remains standoffish. (is that a word?). I keep hoping that someone will drive by, stop and say "hey, that's my dog!".
The weather is great and being the weekend, there is lots of traffic on the road. This is quad, dirtbike and four wheel country.
Finally took down the Christmas lights out of the trees and off the awning so the pics are of me putting all the decorations away in the storage pod on the trailer.
Nobody stopped for the dog. Not Good!!

Friday January 1/2010

Happy New Year everyone!! May this year be the best ever - for all of us. Of course this is the day after the night before so, we were in recovery mode. I had just enough energy to drag out the lawnchairs and my murder mystery and park myself in the sun. Life is tough!! I managed to get a bit of a sunburn - which I am sure I will recover from nicely. What a way to spend the first day of the new year!!
The stray remains!!

Thursday Dec 31/09 New Years Eve

New Year's Eve day - wow time sure flies!! Nice sunny day again so must have a bonfire tonight and welcome the New Year in style. Went for my walk today and had two dogs with me - the stray is still here!! Not Good!! I should really take him into town but don't really feel like doing much of anything. Hogan and him played all day.
John started a campfire and as the midnight hour approached, decided that we needed to decorate the truck and go wish the other campers a Happy New Year. We must have looked like a couple of crazy Canucks but it was fun!!
